Russ Canzler hit his first major league homer and reliever David Huff won his first game this season and the Cleveland Indians beat the Minnesota Twins 7-6 on Friday night.
Minnesota built an early 4-0 lead on Indians starter Jeanmar Gomez before Canzler and Huff (1-0) - who both spent most of the year in Triple-A Columbus before being called up this month - lifted Cleveland to its fourth win in six games.
Canzler went 3 for 4 with a walk and three RBIs - the first RBIs of his major league career - and Huff retired all 10 batters he faced after relieving Gomez in the fourth.
Twins starter Liam Hendriks couldn't hold onto a four-run lead for the second straight game and remained winless in 16 career starts.
Josh Willingham hit a two-run double and Justin Morneau added a sac fly in the third to give Hendriks a 4-0 lead.
But Canzler started the rally with a two-run homer in the fourth.
Then in the fifth, Shin-Soo Choo added an RBI single and Canzler drove in Jason Kipnis on a...

Paul Hoynes of The Plain Dealer reported Friday night that third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall could rejoin the big league Indians when the Aeros wrap up their postseason in the next week (possibly as soon as tonight). Manager Manny Acta said he wouldn’t play every day if brought up:
“We have to make a decision if we’re going to bring him here or continue to play him at Lake County...

MINNEAPOLIS Carl Pavano's 2012 season is finished. There's a chance that the right-hander's career with the Minnesota Twins may be over, too.If it were up to the 36-year-old Pavano, though, he would love to come back to Minnesota next season after his current contract expires at the end of this year. Yet at the same time, Pavano knows it's not solely his decision...
In the Indians' 7-6 win at Minnesota Friday night, Roberto Hernandez missed his second consecutive start
due to a sprained right ankle. Indians officials are being very vague about any timetable for the return of
Hernandez, who is wearing a walking boot on his foot. Hernandez has already missed most of the 2012 season, following his arrest for identity theft in his
'Tis the season for Major League Baseball meltdowns. While Bobby Valentine was threatening to punch Glenn Ordway in the face on Wednesday afternoon, Indians closer Chris Perez had some pretty interesting things to say, too. While Valentine was criticizing the media and the like, it was Perez who went after his bosses. Bold move, no doubt, especially when you consider, you know...
MINNEAPOLIS The list of names kept rolling. Former players. Former teammates. Retired numbers. Every one of them holds a place in the hearts of Twins fans, but for one evening, it wasn't about them. It could have been monotonous, this name after name after name, long walk after long walk across the same stretch of outfield that current players cover so quickly. But it wasn&...
The Indians dropped the second game of their weekend series in Minnesota on Saturday night, falling 3-0 at Target Field. The Tribe lineup managed just four measly hits off a combination of Cole De Vries and three Twins relievers.

Darin Mastroianni, the Minnesota Twins' fourth outfielder, has worked with trainer Perry Castellano on a regimen to keep himself ready for defense even when he isn't playing. On Tuesday in Chicago, that meant a series of long tosses to the center field wall at U.S. Cellular Field, where the Twins were playing the White Sox. Castellano would toss the ball over the fence...
Ubaldo Jimenez was once a terrific young starting pitcher for the Colorado Rockies. He had tremendous raw talent and pitching acumen to boot. If harnessed, he figured to miss bats, keep the ball on the ground and limit walks while remaining on the effectively wild side. He could dial it up to 96 mph — average fastball velocity of 95.8 mph in 2007 — and threw a top-notch, looping...
