Seattle Times:
Mariners center fielder Franklin Gutierrez had to leave the game in the second inning after an ugly collision with the unpadded wall in right center. He was chasing down a drive by Ryan Raburn that went for a triple. Gutierrez almost made a sensational catch, but the ball bounced loose as he smashed into the video scoreboard portion of the wall and immediately hit the ground in pain as the trainers rushed out.
It appeared he might have been seriously injured, but the initial report is not nearly as dire as it appeared. The Mariners say he has a left elbow and left knee contusions (that's a fancy word for bruise). X-Rays on his elbow were negative. He's listed as day to day.
Gutierrez also has an abrasion on his left knee. But considering what might have happened -- he smashed into the wall with the left side of his body, and also hit his head -- that's pretty good news.
