Blake Griffin, of the Los Angeles Clippers, has been known for his amazing dunk skills, and for posterizing any and all big men. He has been compared to the high-flying power forward, Shawn ” The Reign Man ” Kemp, who was known for his Dunks during the 90′s. Blake Griffin has showed that he will be remembered as one of the best, high flying big men of the NBA, but some people are saying that his play style is similar to Shawn Kemp’s during his peak, although Shawn Kemp was a better defender. As of right now Blake Griffin’s low-post game and overall defensive prowess is in question, but his athletic abilities and capacity to get the crowd on their feet often times overshadows his his inabilities in other areas. Blake’s IQ on the court may also come into question, but he’s still young and the the assumption is he’ll get better with age. Shawn Kemp struggled in his Rookie Year in the NBA averaging below 10 PPG and 5 RPG, but his desire to learn led to his stardom. Kemp finally found his groove and place in the NBA as a star during his 2nd season (sophomore year) with Seattle, alongside Gary Payton. Shawn Kemp was interviewed and was asked about his comparison with the young, high-flying star, Blake Griffin, Kemp expresses doubt in Blake’s true dunking power, and notes that many of the lobs Paul and Griff connect on are not dunks, but rather “slap-ins.”. Kemp was also sure to mention that he is a big fan of Blake Griffin. It’s hard to compare a player from the 1990′s to a player in this “Era”. During the 90′s era, defense and decision making of the players was a lot better, but in this Era players are more athletic and better pure scorers. It will be great to see Blake Griffin’s career unfold, since he is still young and has much to learn. We’ll have to wait until Blake’s career is before we can make a full comparison of him and the retired Shawn Kemp. At the end of the day, we will always remember Shawn Kemp as one of the greatest dunkers of all-time. The post Is Blake Griffin the next Shawn Kemp? appeared first on Pass The Pill.
