With no end in sight to the NBA lockout, many players have decided to play overseas. Detroit Piston Rodney Stuckey may be one of those players.
China’s CBA team, the Guangdong Southern Tigers have been reportedly trying to sign free agent Stuckey, but no deal has been made…yet. The problem is that the CBA has a strict rule, making any NBA player who signs with them commit to the entire season. Therefore if the lockout ends Stuckey would be, for lack of a better word, “stuck” in China until their season ends in March.
Many players who have decided to play overseas have an opt-out clause in their contract, releasing them if the lockout comes to an end before March. China does not offer such. Washington Wizards Yi Jianlin has signed with the Tigers, a team he started his basketball career with. However, Chinese NBA players are not bound by that rule and he may return at any time.
