According to the NHL website Evgeni Nabokov has been placed on IR for the second time this season. The first time he missed eleven games with a groin injury. Now he is out with a lower body injury that happened during a play on Monday night against the Dallas Stars. The extent of his injury wasn't mentioned but Kevin Poulin will be starting goalie and Anders Nilsson will be backing him up until Nabokov can return.

Fantasy Hockey: Thomas Vanek enjoying playing for New York Islanders

My current fantasy hockey keepers league team features both New York Islanders superstars, John Tavares and Thomas Vanek,  right now with this combination I am reaping major benefits. Vanek, is currently enjoying a 10 game point scoring streak; while Tavares continues to prove he is one of the very best hockey players on earth, in a recent game Tavares compiled five points, (3G...

Check out this crazy GIF of him practicing his stickhandling skills in the pre-game warm-up yesterday. The Islanders went on to win the game 5-3 over the Maple Leafs. Tavares had three assists. Related:Video: Hockey Trick Shot Compilation

Tavares hat trick carries Isles

The feeling was this was something bigger than it was — the fans, the team, the player. Above all, the player. John Tavares put on a show Monday night at the Coliseum, notching his fifth career hat trick in the Islanders’ 7-3 thwarting of the Stars. It was a game in which Tavares did his best Mike Bossy imitation, and if you closed your eyes and squinted hard enough, you just...

Thomas Vanek Sets Up John Tavares With Nifty Between-the-Legs Pass (Video)

Plays like this make you wonder how the New York Islanders have been so bad this season. John Tavares and Thomas Vanek teamed up Monday night on a sensational goal that Rich Peverley and Kari Lehtonen would probably like to forget. Trailing the Dallas Stars 2-1 midway through the second period, Tavares picked Peverley’s pocket in front of the Dallas net and dropped a pass back...

Maple Leafs fall to New York Islanders 5-3

The Maple Leafs were looking for a bounce-back game. Instead, they got bad bounces. Or bad gaffes. Whatever you want to call them. Toronto fell to the New York Islanders 5-3 on Tuesday night at the Air Canada Centre, but it wasn’t necessarily for lack of effort. It was certainly much better than the one put forth on Saturday night in a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of the New York...

Perhaps they might want to get Okposo some practice time before they insert...

Dan Petriw: Another game, Another win

It was by no means their most complete game of the season but nonetheless the Islanders gutted out a 5-3 win in Toronto over the Maple Leafs. The Islanders have now won five of the last six games and are playing some consistent hockey for the first time all season. This was not a flawless game last night but the Islanders still managed to come away with two points without playing...

2014 Team Austria Official Olympic Roster by   Steven Ellis

Austria announced their first Olympic roster since the 2002 tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it’s easily the strongest team they’ve ever brought. With names like Thomas Vanek, Bernhard Starkbaum, Michael Grabner and Thomas Hundertpfund, Austria doesn’t have all the big name talent some of their competitors do, but they could be one of the better teams heading into the [...]
