It's Time To Break Out The Formula Kiddies.

Posted June 30, 2013
The formula is simple. Mike Vick + any coach= injuries, turnovers, and ultimately that coach getting fired. How is this a formula for greatness? How is this a formula to improve this football team? How do you expect this team to be a championship contender when the quarterback lacks the ability to do so? In other words if you want Mike Vick to start for the Eagles next season (especially if you don't even want him to earn the job) you in effect want to "tank the season." Foles/Barkely/Dixon/Kinne + Kelly =? The truth is none of us truly knows how it could play out with any of these other quarterbacks as options. They could all suck or one of them could be the key to the Eagles return to greatness. The fact is the Eagles will not be a good football team until they fix this quarterback situation. I don't view playing one of these guys as "tanking the season." On the contrary playing one of these guys could be the lynchpin for creating a better era of Eagles football. I would rather find out if that were true than knowingly "tank the season" with injuries, turnovers, and coaches getting fired for trusting in an absolute known failure. The definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Mike Vick is that insanity people.

  • If you break up Vick's numbers to before and after that very good run in 2010 his numbers are atrocious (even BEFORE that streak he was a bad QB). He has never before had a streak like that in his career...not even close. I highly doubt he will ever come close to that again. Throw in the injuries and I'm not sure why any fan (not related) would want to see him under center. I surely don't want the 2011-12 version and hopefully Kelly doesn't either. We'll see come preseason.

  • Someone on here keeps typing how subtraction is addition when it comes to the Raiders yet when some of us would like to see the Eagles do the same thing with Vick and type we are willing to see a couple less wins to see it through he questions our motives and calls us losers (this is the same guy who was typing the Eagles should trade one of their best receivers a year ago). Sounds like hypocrisy to me.
  • All animal abuse aside, Vick's a pretty pathetic excuse for a QB. If anything, I've always seen him as a RB stuck inside a QB's body.
  • I think the Eagles need to...what was it that the Raider fan called it when the Raiders were releasing and trading players including the BEST QB on their roster?...change their culture (does that make him a loser?).

Vick does nothing but get in the way of a much needed change at QB in the beginning of a new Eagle era. Even if he has a better year this year he has a better chance of helping Kelly being shown the door than ever winning anything meaningful in Philly. Geoff Mosher (Eagleinsider for CSN.com) who originally thought that bringing back Vick meant Kelly would start him now thinks that Vick has a tougher road ahead of him and that drafting Barkley proves that Kelly is open to any style of QB. He said a tie between the players would probably mean that Kelly would go with Foles being that he is younger and cheaper (something MANY of us have typed) and he also stated that Barkley could elbow his way into position...I don't think Barkley starts the season but with Barkley's supposed upside, the lack of having an elite QB on the roster, Vick's injuries if he gets the start and the fact that rookie Foles got a half dozen starts last year why couldn't Barkley get the nod at some point this season?
  • It's good to see that most people who are still on the site see that Vick isn't the solution to the problem. He's nothing more at this point than a hindrance to the Eagles turning the page to the next phase of their greatness. That isn't to say that one of these quarterbacks on the roster s that guy, but we will never find out as long as Mike Vick is in the way holding this team back.
