Jaguars 2nd overall pick in 2013 NFL draft Luke Joeckel The Jacksonville Jaguars offensive line ranked third worst in the NFL last season in both sacks allowed and Quarterback hits. For any good or even great NFL team, an offensive line with the ability to block for a quarterback or create holes for a running back is essential. Looking at statistics, the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, and New York Giants had 3 of the best offensive lines in the NFL and it’s these teams that can be recognized as winners. The 2012 season for the Jaguars saw a countless number of lineup changes on the O-line due to injuries and a lack of depth. At certain times during the season, the Jags could be seen picking players up basically off the street to start on Sunday. The Jags were also 29th in the league in rushing touchdowns and 30th in rushing yards total. The 2013 season looks for an offensive line returning to full strength and the addition of young talent. At left tackle, the Jags will have Eugene Monroe, the team’s 8th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft who has started 29 total games. Filling the other tackle spot will more than likely be the Jags second overall pick in this year’s draft out of Texas A&M Luke Joeckel. The guard position gave the Jags the most problems last season, with the team’s two premier players out with injury all year. It’s those two players, Uche Nwaneri and Will Rackley who aside from injury will bolster the inside of the line this year. At center, the Jags will see longtime Jaguar Brad Meester back for his 14th season. Meester has been a staple for an offensive line that from 2003-2010 helped the Jags to a ranking of third in the NFL in rushing. With a healthy offensive live, the Jags look to return to form and a unit of season’s past. Right now it is unclear who the team will have starting at Quarterback, but whether it’s Chad Henne or Blaine Gabbert, a stronger line will instantly improve a struggling offense.
