Jay Mariotti is probably the most polarizing man in the history of Chicago sports media and quite possibly the most hated in all of the national sports media. He’s like the Eminem of sports media- he’s had a feud with everyone. Mariotti has had a tiff with former Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, his former employer the Chicago Sun-Times, King of all sports blogs Deadspin, and many others. The Sun-Times move of partnering with new upstart website ChicagoSide has rekindled the war of words between Mariotti and the second city’s second newspaper. The Sun-Times on Mondays will run two pages of ChicagoSide content. The website is run by two extremely connected individuals, one of which is former Wall Street Journal reporter Jonathan Eig. Mariotti contributes to ChicagoSide. From Jim Romenesko’s website: “The funny thing would be if the Sun-Times picks up a Mariotti column or two!” writes the person who tipped me off to the Sun-Times/ChicagoSide partnership. Mariotti, who resign...

White Sox Rumors: No Players are Untouchable

The Chicago White Sox haven’t actively shopped young players, including Dayan Viciedo or Alejandro De Aza, but general manager Rick Hahn told reporters, including Mark Gonzalez of The Chicago Tribune, that no one is untouchable. The White Sox don’t appear to be inclined to actively pursue a trade of either Viciedo or De Aza, but they also sound willing to listen...

GM Rick Hahn says White Sox poised to make jump

The Chicago White Sox have made no flashy additions to their roster this winter and even lost a link to their championship team, so general manager Rick Hahn understands the perception that the club hasn't improved. That doesn't mean he agrees. He sees a team that's ready to make a jump in the AL Central after finishing second to Detroit last season, even if the White...

Player Profile #126: Chris Sale | SP | CHW

I love everything about what Chris Sale did last year. By winning 17 games on the back of a 3.05 ERA in 192 innings, Sale gave us a blueprint for what a successful reliever-to-starter conversion looks like. Until further notice, whenever I read that a reliever is going to give it a shot in the rotation, I’ll compare him to Sale to estimate his chances at succeeding. But while almost...

Minor League deal for Dan Johnson

The Yankees have signed left-handed hitting infielder/DH Dan Johnson to a minor league deal with an invite to Spring Training. If Johnson makes the team, he will earn $900,000. Johnson, 33, had eight hits in just 22 at-bats in 2012 with the Chicago White Sox. He can play both corner infield positions, which could be valuable if Mark Teixeira or Kevin Youkilis need a day off. Yankee...

White Sox agree to deal with RHP Lindstrom

The Chicago White Sox say they have agreed to a one-year contract with reliever Matt Lindstrom that includes a club option for 2014. The deal was announced on Friday. Lindstrom will receive $2.3 million next season. The White Sox can then pay him $4 million in 2014 or buy him out for $500,000. The 32-year-old right-hander was 1-0 with a 2.68 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 46 games...

Cornering The Adam Dunn Market.

I recently picked up a fantastically-awesome triple relic of one of my favorite non-Dodgers, Adam Dunn. I don't mention Dunn on the blog at all because he's not a guy I collect even though I like him. I even own a Reds' jersey of Dunn I received as a gift many years ago.For just $9.99 delivered I couldn't pass up this beaut. It's super-short-printed to just 8...

Retired Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas feels even better about his career after watching steroids-tainted stars Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Roger Clemens fail to gain entry to the Hall of Fame. ''I think I've done enough to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer,'' he said Saturday at the team's fan convention. ''Watching all the nonsense unfold...

White Sox claim Zach Stewart off waivers

Zach Stewart has been claimed off of waivers by the Chicago White Sox. Stewart pitched for the White Sox at the start of the 2012 season. Stewart was traded to Boston along with Brent Lillibridge  for Kevin Youkilis. In November he was acquired by Pittsburgh who recently placed him on waivers. In 103 big league innings the right hander has a 6.82 ERA.

White Sox acquire RHP Stewart

The Chicago White Sox say they have acquired right-handed pitcher Zach Stewart off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Stewart was 1-4 with an 8.58 ERA in 20 games last season for the White Sox and Boston. He was traded to the Red Sox with infielder Brent Lillibridge on June 24 in exchange for third baseman Kevin Youkilis. He was traded to Pittsburgh in November and designated...

Zach Stewart Claimed off Waivers by the White Sox

According to MLBTR, Zach Stewart has been claimed off waivers by the Chicago White Sox. The Pirates designated Stewart for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Jeff Karstens. Stewart was acquired earlier in the off-season from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later. The Pirates eventually sent Kyle Kaminska to complete the deal.
