If the Buffalo Bandits are going to up their win streak to four games this weekend, they’re going to have to do it without the NLL’s all-time leading scorer.
The team announced today that captain John Tavares will not play this Saturday when the team hosts East Division rival Toronto in a rematch of last year’s Division Semi-final contest. The 44-year old Tavares suffered a calf injury, something that has nagged him for the past few years, in the team’s victory over Philadelphia last weekend.
Head Coach Darris Kilgour said that they will re-evaluate him during the week.
One of the biggest talking points so far this season has been the less-than-stellar play of Luke Wiles through the team’s first four games. On Wednesday, Kilgour gave a bit of insight as to why he hasn’t been performing as well as he’s been known to. Wiles has had trouble getting his green card issues squared away, so he has been unable to practice with the team up in Canada. Kilgour believes that he will have it sorted out soon, and things will start to get better once he’s able to practice with the team.
Saturday marks the return of former Bandit captain Chris White to Buffalo since he signed with the Rock as a free agent in the offseason. It will be interesting to see how the Bandits faithful respond to the player who spent eight seasons in Buffalo.
