The Chicago Blackhawks were having a tough time getting anything past Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask, so you knew it would take a little bit of luck to tie the game and that is exactly what happened.  Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya shot the puck wide of the net when it deflected off Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference’s skate and into the net. The excitement on Oduya’s face and disappointment on Ference’s tells you just how important this goal was for both teams. [YouTube]

Bruins have not forgotten tragedy

Nearly two months have passed since the Boston Marathon bombings, not that it's far from Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference's thoughts. "We still see our neighbors and other people affected," Ference said during the Stanley Cup Final Media Day on Tuesday. "A lot of us go to visit people at Spalding Rehabilitation (Hospital). We still get together with friends...

Players recovering after long Game 1

The half-dozen Boston Bruins made available to reporters strolled into a conference room of a Lakeshore hotel Thursday. None needed to be pushed into the media session in wheelchairs the afternoon after the fifth-longest game in Stanley Cup Final history, a Game 1 contest won by the Chicago Blackhawks after 112 minutes, eight seconds of hockey. There were no IV bags full of saline...

Chicago Tribune’s Steve Rosenbloom On Tuukka Rask “Just Not That Good”

A.B. This guy is the ultimate internet troll. But us “people in Boston” don’t just dislike his statement… we dislike his smug attitude, his corny wine painting and his NHL hat made for a 12 year old as well. Where are the facts Stevie boy; Mr. hockey expert? “He’s just not that good,” isn’t an argument – it’s unsubstantiated drivel from a Midwest homer. Make the...

Boston Bruins' Rask reflective following Game 1 loss

(AP Photo/The Canadian Press, Ryan Remiorz) CHICAGO--  It is hard to criticize a goaltender who stops 59 shots. Tuukka Rask hit a rough patch in the third period allowing two goals and  allowing the Boston Bruins lead to disappear, but he was brilliant in the three overtimes. He stopped all eight shots that came his way in the first edition, then turned away 10 more in the second...

Elite matchup: Two goalies, one Cup

Boston Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask was as quick with a correction as he's been with his pads this postseason. "I said 'good' goalie," Rask said with a slight smirk. No, Rask didn't call himself an 'elite' goalie during the Stanley Cup Media Day on Tuesday. His counterpart on the Chicago Blackhawks, Corey Crawford, didn't either. But stats and...

Tuukka Rask, Bruins’ Team-First Mentality Should Give B’s Plenty of Confidence Despite Game 1 Loss

Editor’s note: In the spirit of sports brotherhood—and trash talk—RedEye and the New England Sports Network have created a columnist exchange. Chicago vs. Boston. Blackhawks vs. Bruins. Bag Boy vs. NESN hockey writer Mike Cole. Have at it, gentlemen.  All it took for the Blackhawks to win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final was a puck off of a skate, a few Bruins’ shots ringing...

Tuukka Rask, Corey Crawford the Leading Contenders for Conn Smythe Trophy

Each year, the Conn Smythe Trophy is given to the most valuable player in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Unlike the NFL, NBA and MLB, the playoff award is given to the best player in the entire postseason and not just the final round. Goaltenders tend to get the award often. The last two winners were netminders, as were five of the last 10. This year, the goaltenders on each side appear...

VIDEO: Chicago Blackhawks Win Game 1 Of The Stanley Cup Finals In Triple OT

As the clock was about to strike midnight in Chicago, Blackhawks defenseman Michael Rozsival took a shot from the point that was deflected by Dave Boland in the slot and then again by Andrew Shaw past  Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. The goal was scored with just under 8 minutes left in the third overtime.  The game became  the 5th longest in Stanley Cup history. Boston Bruins...

Anton Khudobin Interviews Bruins Teammates With Naoko Funayama During Fun Stanley Cup Final Media Day (Video)

With starter Tuukka Rask earning most of the buzz in net for the Bruins, backup Anton Khudobin still found a way to keep busy on Media Day before the Stanley Cup Final. Khudobin teamed up with NESN’s Naoko Funayama to add inject some fun into an otherwise monotonous day, interrupting his teammates’ interviews with some more pertinent questions. Check out the goalie’s antics...

Bruins Lose Heartbreaker in Triple Overtime, Setting Stage for What Will Surely Be Epic Series (Video)

How do you follow up one of the greatest games of all time? Well, we’re about to find out. After a triple-overtime thriller in which both teams squandered chance after chance and toyed with the emotions of their fans, the Blackhawks emerged victorious after a doubly deflected goal somehow found its way past Tuukka Rask and the Bruins. This thrilling Game 1 certainly sets the stage...

Crawford shines in Chicago's 4-3 triple OT win

Corey Crawford bested Tuukka Rask in the stat that really counts. The Blackhawks goalie was outstanding in overtime - all three periods of it - keeping his teammates in the game long enough to finally overcome Boston 4-3 in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals on Wednesday night. He smothered a 2-on-1 breakaway in the first OT, frustrated David Krejci time and again and had so many...

Looking Past Game One of the Stanley Cup Finals: Can the Bruins Recover?

For the first time in 34 years two of professional hockey’s original six teams meet to fight for the Stanley Cup. The Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks kicked off the grand finale of the NHL season Wednesday night in Chicago with both teams coming into this series with a ton of confidence and momentum. Both won their final games by a single goal: the Bruins in regulation to...

NHL Offseason Preview: Goalie Edition

With the Stanley Cup Finals starting tonight, it seems like no better time to start talking about the offseason goalie market. Goaltending always seems to be a priority when dealing with success, during the season, but more importantly, during the playoffs. Goaltending played a major factor in last years NHL Stanley Cup Finals, as Jonathan Quick stole the show, and this year...

Bruins-Blackhawks Preview

Corey Crawford was in the stands when Patrick Kane slammed home the goal that secured the Stanley Cup for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010. A year later, Tuukka Rask was just a practice player when Tim Thomas led the Boston Bruins to the title. Fast forward to Wednesday night at the United Center, and Crawford and Rask will be in goal when the Blackhawks host the Bruins in Game 1...
