NFL star and Miami native Jonathan Vilma is currently in a  legal battle with the Miami Marlins, claiming the team failed to live up to its promises and mismanaged a concession stand related to his barbecue restaurant. The Saints linebacker, who is a co-owner of the Brother Jimmy’s BBQ franchise in Miami, and the team have filed lawsuits against each other in Miami-Dade over the failed stand at Marlins Park. If you remember this BBQ joint, its because they famously wouldn’t serve Roger Goodell. Here’s the scoop from NBC Miami: “We did voice our concerns and we actually personally went there, we went to the games and we wouldn’t let them know who we were, we’d go and taste our own food and we’d tell them look, ‘this food is not to our standards,’” Vilma said during an appearance Wednesday on the Kup & Crowder Show on 560 WQAM. “It hurts us as a business because if for the first time a fan goes to Marlins stadium, they taste Brother Jimmy’s, they say ‘this food is terrible,’ and all they’re gonna remember is the bad food and or service that they got at the Marlins stadium and we expected better than that.” The Marlins also promised that business would be booming since they have a new stadium and it would be full but we all know that isn’t exactly true. The moral of the story, don’t enter into a contract with the Marlins. Especially when their stadium regularly looks like this:

Jonathan Vilma and the Marlins are feuding over a BBQ stand

It hasn't been a good week for the Miami Marlins here at The Outside Corner. Some might argue that we've been picking on them, between our End of Season Post-Mortem and Hope for the Hopeless articles featuring the Marlins. But those were entirely based on timing, with Miami becoming officially eliminated from playoff consideration this week. Going into Friday's play...

Vilma in battle with Marlins over BBQ

Apparently the lack of quality baseball at the Miami Marlins' new ballpark is rivaled only by the lack of quality food, and that has the team in a battle with one tough opponent: New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma. The lack of quality standards is one of Vilma's biggest complaints in a lawsuit filed against the Marlins. See, Vilma co-owns a barbecue restaurant...

Near his limit, Jose Fernandez puts on best show of season

MIAMI -- The story being pitched seemed too good to be true. Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez had taken the mound Friday night against the Washington Nationals knowing it likely would be his next-to-last start of the season due to a team-imposed innings cap. With Washington's only base runner through the first five innings coming on a walk, was Fernandez scripting a no-hitter...

Miami Marlins: series preview vs. Nationals

(Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports) After taking two of three from the Chicago Cubs in Wrigley Field and finishing a nine-game road trip with just a 3-6 record, the Miami Marlins return home for seven games beginning with three against the Washington Nationals. Prior to taking the series in Chicago, the Marlins had lost five straight series. Miami begins the homestand with Washington...

Davey Johnson says Marlins' Jose Fernandez is NL ROY

MIAMI -- Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson had no doubt who should win the National League Rookie of the Year Award: Miami Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez. "To me, he's a shoo-in to win Rookie of the Year," Johnson said before his team faced Fernandez in Friday night's opener of a weekend series. "I know there are a lot of other good young pitchers...

Video: Foul ball causes Marlins usher to flip backwards

Your browser does not support iframes. This play epitomizes the Miami Marlins in 2013. In the bottom of the first, Marlins slugger Logan Morrison ripped a groundball foul into the first few rows of the first base stands. It was nothing too dangerous expect for the fact that it caused one unsuspecting usher to fall backwards of their stool in an effort to dodge the ball. ...

Jose Fernandez strikes out 9, dominates again

It's been a season Dan Haren would like to forget. Haren's struggles continued against the Miami Marlins on Friday night as he allowed five runs and six hits in three innings for the Washington Nationals in a 7-0 loss while his counterpart, Jose Fernandez, was at his best. Haren (8-13) was coming off another short outing as he pitched 2 2-3 innings and allowed seven runs...

NL Rookie of the Year Award Predictions

With less than one month remaining in the 2013 MLB season, it’s time to seriously consider award candidates across the majors. The race for the National League Rookie of the Year award will be particularly interesting, with the contest essentially boiled down to two candidates. One of the NL Rookie of the Year candidates is Jose Fernandez, the brilliant young starter for the Miami...

‘Another phenomenal start’ from Jose Fernandez in Marlins 7-0 win over Nationals

Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez covered his mouth with that big orange glove of his and shouted words unfit to print in English Spanish or any tongue known to men who understand the heartache of dastardly luck. It was a swinging bunt that did in Fernandez’s no-hit bid in the fifth inning of a 7-0 Marlins victory by a kid named Zach Walters in his Major League Baseball debut. A...

Nathan Eovaldi, Marlins overpowered by Nationals

MIAMI (AP) -- Ryan Zimmerman homered twice and drove in three runs, powering the Washington Nationals to a 9-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Saturday night. Jayson Werth and Anthony Rendon had three hits apiece as the Nationals won for the third time in four games to remain on the fringe of the NL wild-card race. Tanner Roark (5-0) pitched six scoreless innings in his first...

Saints Lofton to face former team in opener

The Saints are re-grouping after losing defensive captain linebacker Jonathan Vilma until at least week 8, and the man who is replacing Vilma as the Saints' signal caller faces a big test against the Falcons this Sunday, especially given that Atlanta is his former team. The Falcons drafted Curtis Lofton in 2008, the same year they took quarterback Matt Ryan: Atlanta snagged...

Nationals-Marlins Preview

Jose Fernandez likely only has two more chances to further his case for NL Rookie of the Year. The Washington Nationals surely wish one of them didn't have to be against them. Arguably the majors' top pitcher over the past two months, Fernandez could get in the way of Washington's last-ditch run at a playoff spot Friday night while inching closer to his innings limit...
