Red Sox left-hander Jon Lester will start Game 1 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
That's the word on Monday from Boston manager John Farrell.
Farrell says he hasn't decided on his entire lineup, but designated hitter David Ortiz will start at least once at first base when the series shifts to St. Louis for the middle three games. There is no DH allowed in the NL park, meaning Ortiz will have to play the field for just the seventh time this season.
The Red Sox worked out Monday, two days after eliminating the Detroit Tigers in Game 6 of the AL championship series.
Game 1 of the World Series is Wednesday night at Fenway Park.

Earlier in the season, Boston Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz was accused of using a mixture of sunscreen and rosin to get a better grip on the ball. Now...it's his teammate Jon Lester who might be under the microscope. Wednesday night, during Game One of the World Series, the Boston ace was seen going to his glove during the seventh inning and, to some, it appeared as if he...
BOSTON — It was a win six years in the making.
A lot has happened in Jon Lester‘s career since Game 4 of the 2007 World Series, but the results stayed the same Wednesday. Lester, who earned the victory in Boston’s title-clinching game in Colorado in 2007, pitched the Red Sox to a 1-0 series lead in the 2013 World Series by completely controlling the Cardinals for 7 2/3 shutout...
The Red Sox Jon Lester shut down the Cardinals lineup as the Red Sox went on to take game 1 of the World Series 8-1. The Cardinals struggled at the plate and looked sloppy on the field as a pop-up dropped between Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina. The Cardinals committed 3 errors in the game […]

From worst to first, the Red Sox journey to put their finishing touches an incredible turnaround began tonight, as Jon Lester faced off versus Cardinals' ace Adam Wainwright in Game 1 of the 109th World Series.
Lester was pretty darn good tonight. Most of the time he was electric and located on both sides of the plate, but he did get into some jams as the...
The last time the Red Sox played in a World Series game, Jon Lester was the starter. When the Sox take the field for their latest World Series appearance on Wednesday, Lester will once again get the start.
It was all but assumed, but the Red Sox made it official Monday when manager John Farrell named the left-handed hurler the Game 1 starter.
It will be Lester’s fourth start of...
In a chilly night at Fenway Park, the time had finally come. The fall classic was here! Game one of the World Series featured the Boston Red Sox with Jon Lester and the St. Louis Cardinals with Adam Wainwright. The game though, delivered some huge surprises.

John Farrell‘s eyes are on the prize. But when he finally has an opportunity to reflect on the Red Sox’ remarkable 2013 season he’ll have at least one individual accolade to hang his hat on. Farrell was named the Sporting News’ 2013 American League Manager of the Year while Pirates skipper Clint Hurdle was named the National League Manager of the Year. Farrell and Hurdle...
The hard-fought American League Championship Series was full of respect between the two talented squads, and that reverence was extended even after the Red Sox defeated the Tigers in Game 6 at Fenway Park.
Two days after Boston clinched the AL pennant, effectively ending Detroit’s season, Jim Leyland announced that he would be stepping down. The news came as a bit of a shock to...
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell said he will probably start Jake Peavy in Game 3 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, followed by Clay Buchholz in Game 4.

''We'll probably look to give him every extra day we can,''...
One year ago, the Red Sox were sitting at home, nursing the wounds of a brutally disappointing 69-93 season. Now, they’re just four wins away from a World Series championship.
It has been a wild ride already for the Red Sox, from the introduction of John Farrell last October to the final out of the American League Championship Series last Saturday. With first pitch of Game 1 of...
Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell says he hasn't decided on his exact pitching rotation beyond Game 2 of the World Series.
