Goalie controversy in Philly?
Despite having signed Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million contract over the offseason, the Flyers have a tough situation brewing with backup Sergei Bobrovsky playing lights out.
Jaromir Jagr To Miss Return To MSG Saturday?
Philadelphia Flyers forward Jagr attempted to return to the lineup against the Islanders after missing the previous two games with a sore groin. Turns out that he was not fully ready to be back as he left during the second period after re-tweaking the injury and did not return.
Following the game Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly
reported that Jagr will miss the next two games due...
Talbot Hit Clean Says PA Parenteau
Uniondale, NY -- During last night’s game PA Parenteau was called for a hit to the head on Maxime Talbot late in the first period.
After the game Parenteau said that it was a clean hit and not a hit to the head,
“No, absolutely not,” Parenteau responded when asked if he hit Talbot in the head. “I was low, hit shoulder to shoulder, I finished my arm high, maybe that’s...
The irony behind the Flyers early-season success
Getty Images
BY: DUSTIN POLLACK
Thursday, June 23rd 2011. In just one day, the Philadelphia Flyers changed the entire make up of their franchise.
Out was captain Mike Richards and leading-scorer Jeff Carter and in was what the Flyers had seemingly needed for years, a proven goaltender. Ilya Bryzgalov came to Philadelphia with a great track record and was supposedly the one who...
Flyers Alumni Winter Classic Roster Released
After weeks of rumors and speculation the Flyers officially announced their Winter Classic Alumni Game roster Friday.
The team that will take the ice at Citizens Bank Park Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. is full of former Orange and Black stars including seven Stanley Cup champions like Bob “the Hound” Kelly, Reggie Leach and Orest Kindrachuk; 16 former Flyers All-Stars like Eric...
Phillies take note: Flyers’ youth being served in NHL resurgence
I have to give credit to the Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Paul Holmgren.
A year after making the Stanley Cup finals, they lost in the second round to the Boston Bruins, the eventual Stanley Cup champion. (Hey, the championship, all of them, except the Sixers, come through Philly).
Did Holmgren stand pat?
Nope.
He traded away not-so-old veterans Jeff Carter and...
Information Regarding Eric Lindros And John LeClair Autograph Signing
It is an exciting time in Philadelphia. The Winter Classic has the citty buzzing, and a lot of that has to do with Eric Lindros and John LeClair returning to play in the alumni game. They are also doing great things off the ice, including an autograph signing with proceeds going to The Children's Hospital Of Philadelphia.
Here is some information on the signing, courtesy of Poppel...
Black Friday With the Flyers
One of my favorite Flyers traditions is their annual afternoon Black Friday game. This year played at 3pm, the Flyers will play the Montreal Canadiens in their second matchup of the season.
The teams last played in Montreal was near the end of October. The Canadiens scapegoated assistant coach Perry Pearn before the game after the Habs won just 1 of their first 8 games. Whatever...
Philadelphia Flyers Winter Classic Alumni Game Roster Announced
By David Strehle
NHL Hot Stove Managing Editor
After much speculation, the Flyers official roster for the Winter Classic Alumni team was announced. While the goaltending spots leave something to be desired – Little played all of two games in the Orange-and-Black, and LaForest 38 – the lineup is packed with stars and Hall-of-Famers. The famed LCB line (Bob Clarke...
Tempers Flare As Rangers Beat Flyers 2-0
The always physical matchup definitely started off with a bang. Four seconds into the game, Zac Rinaldo and Brandon Prust dropped the gloves. Avery and Simmonds had words as well, which is not surprising due to their previous incident.
Sergei Bobrovsky started his second straight game, a clear message from the coaching staff to Bryzgalov to get his act together. Full video highlight...
Eklund: The Buzz: Heated Rivalries and Hated Rivals
It hardly seems possible that the season is already past the quarter point and longtime archrivals -- and upcoming Winter Classic opponents -- Philadelphia and New York are playing today for the first time in the regular season. The Flyers also have yet to play the Penguins, so there will be lots of wars to come over the rest of the season.
As I write this, the first period at...
After Recent Struggles, Penalty Kill Fuels Flyers Victory
The Flyers scored two goals right after killing penalties. That was something they had trouble doing in recent games, but on Friday it resulted in a victory.
