While it seems that Husker fans are laser-focused on the home date with Texas in October, the first test of the season might come at home in week two against the Idaho Vandals. The opening week, Nebraska hosts a Western Kentucky team that was winless in 2009. Hardly the kind of team that pulls an upset in Lincoln. But Idaho has some elements that get your attention. The first would be North Platte product Nathan Enderle, Idaho's senior quarterback. He stands 6'5" and at 227 lbs. is built like an NFL signal caller. And in 11 starts last season he threw 22 touchdown passes, just nine interceptions, completed 62% of his passes and amassed nearly 3,000 passing yards. How did he get out of the state? Two words: Bill Callahan. While he was trading text messages with Josh Freeman, Enderle was headed west. They've got some big receivers returning.
