For me, the Yankees/Mets series is fun but not necessary. I realize there are fans of both teams that consider one another their rival. I have never really understood that frankly.
Beating the Yankees 2/3 may feel good on Sunday, but it doesn’t mean that much in the grand scheme of things. They are a rival in a sense of media attention, but not in a sense of on the field play.
With that said, I’ll watch, I’ll cheer, I’ll say “in your face” to my cousin if the Mets win, but we’ll both know its because I haven’t had much to cheer about in the last few years.
To me, for those of you out there who are clinging to a belief that the 2011 Mets are a playoff team, you should be looking past this Yankees series and looking towards the next 2 teams they play.
