A Swampscott man was arrested after he crashed his vehicle into the True Value hardware store on Harvard Street at 2 a.m., on Sunday, Feb. 10.
Jonathan McNutt, 30, allegedly was drunk when he cleared the snow bank in front of the store with his car and smashed through the front window. He was attempting to reverse his car out of the snow bank when police arrived, and was reportedly combative with police officers, according to the police report.
He took an “aggressive position” when speaking to police, and the officers reportedly noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from McNutt.
They concluded that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol and attempted to handcuff him. McNutt allegedly resisted arrest by flexing his arms, and once in handcuffs, shouted, “Isn’t this America?”
