Found January 31, 2013 on NFL Draft Zone:
PLAYERS: Matt Barkley
TEAMS: USC Trojans
Today I had the pleasure to talk with several NFL scouts and pick there brains about the Quarterbacks in the upcoming draft.  Last year if you would have told me that Matt Barkley would be a second rounder I would have told you, your crazy. I still feel the same way this year, so I asked a few NFL scouts what they thought and it seemed as if they had a difference of opinions.  I talked to 4 NFL Scouts and asked them today about Barkley and the other quarterbacks in the group. Two of the NFL scouts said very quickly that Barkley was by far the best quarterback, one said that he thought Geno Smith was the best and one said that he thought Mike Glennon was the best, but this team drafted later in the first round.  I asked the one scout from the AFC what he thought separated Barkley from the other quarterbacks, he said consistencey.  He said Barkley has never thrown less that 15 touchdowns, has started all four years, and is a proven winner.  He said if Barkley came out last year he would have been drafted before RG3 in his opinion.  He said Barkley can make all the NFL throws, and has great zip on the ball.  I asked the same scout to finish out his top 3 quarterbacks after Barkley and he said Tyler Wilson and Geno Smith.  The NFC scout that told me he thought Barkley was the best said that Barkley by far throws the best ball, and he is a very solid player.  He said he didn’t believe Barkley would fall past out of the top 20.  I was not shocked by this but he said one quarterback that has drastically improved since his last game was E.J. Manuel.  He said E.J. could have easily solidified himself in a second round pick. The scout said he is very athletic and would be surprised if he doesn’t keep impressing at the Combine. One name that the scouts almost all agreed on who said was a good quarterback but nothing more than a mid rounder was Zac Dysert.  They said he looked shaken at times in the Senior Bowl and one even went on to say he could see him as a quality back up and that is it.  We all know that Matt Barkley couldn’t make it to the Senior Bowl due to injury, but I asked the scouts if they thought it hurt the stock of the guys like Geno Smith for missing the Senior Bowl, and all of them said no.  One AFC Scout told me that all NFL teams have already watched Geno in over 5 games.  Every NFL team does their homework, said the scout.  One scout said it could guage more interest in the players like Geno or Manti T’eo because now all the teams are going to want to sit down and pick the brain of the players.  Another NFC scout told me that he thought Geno could have helped himsefl by not going to the Senior Bowl, because their was no one clear winner outside of EJ Manuel.  He said that EJ was never really considered a first round in his opinion, but guys like Mike Glennon, Ryan Nassib and Tyler Wilson didn’t help themselves in Mobile, but didn’t hurt themselves that much either. But it did seperate them from the rest of the pack.  So while some believe that Geno was dumb for skipping it looks like he could end up with the last laugh.  I asked all four scouts what quarterback will be drafted first and 2 said Barkley and 2 said Geno.  This was interesting to me, because these scouts all believed that Barkley would be drafted in the first round and two of the teams said Barkley is still the number one quarterback on their draft board.  It seems that Matt Barkley’s money could be growing, and he is just healing back in California.  Barkley came out today and said that the USC proday would be pushed back two weeks from it’s original date so Matt will be a hundred percent.

Report: Matt Barkley still regarded as the top QB by some NFL scouts

According to Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Zone, even though it seems like Matt Barkley’s stock has dramatically dropped since last season.  Some NFL scouts still believe he’s the top quarterback in this year’s draft. I asked the one scout from the AFC what he thought separated Barkley from the other quarterbacks, he said consistency.  He said Barkley has never thrown less that...

Matt Barkley will not throw at NFL combine

Matt Barkley was part of a disappointing USC Trojans team this year but the quarterback does not believe that should reflect negatively on his NFL future. Barkley suffered a shoulder injury in a loss to UCLA that caused him to miss games against Notre Dame and Georgia Tech. Barkley was not exactly the picture of quarterback efficiency this season throwing 15 interceptions. While...

Matt Barkley Says He’s Still A Top Tier Quarterback

They always say you go pro or cash in when you are your hottest.  USC quarterback Matt Barkley is finding that out the hard way after witness his preseason #1 ranked stumble to a terrible 7-6 record. Barkley who had an unbelievable 2011 season threw 15 interceptions this year and looked frazzled at times.  Barkley is fighting the stereotypes though and on ESPN’s The Herd, said...

Finally not acting like a used Trojan, USC head coach Lane Kiffin accepts complete responsibility for the hideous autumn in Troy

Rather than acting like a used Trojan, University of Southern California (USC) head coach Lane Kiffin admirably admitted that he needs to mature as a man and leader to find success on the gridiron. Overseeing an utterly miserable campaign in Troy that saw USC go 7-6, Kiffin, who has compiled substandard records of 32-19 in college and 5-15 in the NFL, accepted complete responsibility...

USC aiming high in Florida

USC head coach Lane Kiffin has always recruited the state of Florida hard, going back to his days at Tennessee. He and the Trojans were back in the state this year and they went after some of the state's best.
