Found November 12, 2013 on Pro Sports Daily:
Goaltender Marek Mazanec will get the start for Nashville against the Islanders on Tuesday night. It will be Mazanec’s first NHL start. The rookie from the Czech Republic stopped 22 of 24 shots in his NHL debut last Friday in relief of Carter Hutton at Winnipeg. This will be the first time Hutton won’t start a game since it was announced Pekka Rinne had a hip infection and would be out at least a month. Mazanec has a 1.97 goals against average and .933 save percentage with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals. “It was my first game in the NHL and I thought I played a pretty good game,” Mazanec said of his action at Winnipeg. “It’s helpful for my mind. I think I will feel better today.” Bourque heads home: At 4 a.m. this morning, forward Gabriel Bourque got a call that his wife was having their first child. Bourque then got in touch with manager of hockey operations Brandon Walker, who got the forward on a 6 a.m. flight back to Nashville to witness the baby’s birth.

Rookie netminder Marek Mazanec to make first NHL start tonight

According to Josh Cooper of The Tennessean, rookie goaltender Marek Mazanec will make his first NHL start tonight. The Nashville Predators chose Mazanec with their last pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. He won a Czech Extraliga Championship last season with HC Plzen and has 5-0-0 for the Milwaukee Admirals which means he hasn’t lost a game since April 19. When two-time Vezina Trophy...

Coincidental or not, Preds struggle without Filip Forsberg

He may share a team-worst plus/minus rating, he may average less than 12 minutes of ice time a game and he may have only one point at even strength but, somehow, Filip Forsberg positively impacts the Nashville Predators. When the 19-year old Swedish phenom is in the lineup, the Preds are 8-2-1 this season. Without him? A putrid 0-5-1. Forsberg has missed time due to injury, has been...

Nashville Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne is one step closer to returning to the net

After undergoing surgery on his hip, his second one of his career, Nashville netminder Pekka Rinne appears to be on track for a recovery. He underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) this week and reportedly has not had any setbacks. Both the team and the team doctors are thankful that they have identified the infection-which means now it is just a matter of recovery. Rinne...

Maturity helps Predators' Jones navigate life as rookie

Rookie defenseman Seth Jones has had his share of ups and downs this season. That's expected of a 19-year-old player not accustomed to the wear and tear of a full season in the National Hockey League. Make no mistake, there have been more positive moments than forgettable ones for Jones, but even he felt his demotion to the third defensive pair in a loss to the Winnipeg Jets...

Patten’s Plus-Minus: Nashville Predators at New York Islanders

The best and worst from Nashville’s 3-1 loss to the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. Plus: Marek Mazanec made his first career NHL start and did not look entirely out of place. While he gave up three goals, he did so on 33 shots. Perhaps it was a performance that would not have earned rave reviews if a) Nashville had not been struggling mightily in net as of late and b) he...

The Fangover - Sigh... Preds drop 3rd straight

The Predators dropped their third straight in another shocking team effort that almost lasted long enough to break the franchise goaless record. Luckily a late goal by Patric Hornqvist not only prevented a new entry to the record books but also spouted a good bout of enthusiasm from the Predators, the likes of which hasn't been seen in three games.  Making his debut in nets...

New York Islanders 3 – Nashville Predators 1

– Highlights: – Notes: Nashville ended a scoreless drought of 174:48 with Patric Hornqvist’s third period goal. Marek Mazanec made his first career start in goal for the Predators, allowing three goals on 33 shots. Patric Hornqvist managed to put 6 shots on Kevin Poulin. Nashville won 38 of 60 faceoffs, while Paul Gaustad won 13 of 16. Seth Jones blocked 6 Islanders shots...

Patten’s Plus-Minus: Nashville Predators at New Jersey Devils

The best and worst from Nashville’s 5-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night. Plus: The McRib is back. The Predators did not have a holding call in their own end zone that resulted in a safety which would ultimately become the deciding score in a game that the team desperately needed to stay relevant in their division. After crashing awkwardly into Derek Morris against...

Predators, Ducks have had talks about Jonas Hiller

To the surprise of few, the Nashville Predators have found life to be very rough without goaltender Pekka Rinne in the crease. Since he has been out with a bacterial infection in his hip, the Preds have been leaking goals left right with their inexperienced goalies. SO it would make sense if GM David POile weren't at least considering the options out there to try and get the...

Devils Blank Preds 5-0

It certainly is a welcomed feeling to watch the Devils dismantle a team from beginning to end. Something clicked for NJ in their 5-0 beatdown to the Nashville Predators. They got on the board early and kept putting pucks in the net. The Devils put 5 pucks past the Preds and did so with 5 different goal scorers (Jagr, Arnott, Zidlicky, Zajac and Tedenby). Zubrus had another beautiful...

Admirals Have Rough Weekend

The Milwaukee Admirals came into Texas on a high.  They had not lost a game in regulation, earned a point in each of their first eight games, and held a record of 6-0-2-0. Let's just say that Texas was not kind to them this past weekend.  Even though they earned a point in a shootout loss on Sunday against the San Antonio Rampage, the Ads dropped to 6-2-2-1 after three...

After hot start, Carter Hutton has struggled for the Preds

The Nashville Predators signed Carter Hutton to a one-year deal this past offseason to add some assurance behind their No. 1 net-minder Pekka Rinne. The Predators did not expect to have to rely on their backup goaltender so early in the season. Hutton choose the Predators this offseason because they gave him the best opportunity to play at the National Hockey League level. His first...
