Robert Pera, who is the prospective new owner of the Memphis Grizzlies, has recruited Justin Timberlake to be a part of his ownership group. Timberlake is a Memphis native, but has become a fixture at Los Angeles Lakers games over the past few years.
Adding Timberlake would certainly bring some celebrity oomph to the Grizzlies, who desperately need to find some kind of identity nationwide. It’s not exactly a sexy franchise, so this move would add some recognition to the team. And no, I’m not going to make a joke about “bringing sexy back” I’ll leave that to some other hack.
Pera is the CEO of Ubiquiti Networks and has agreed to pay an estimated $350 million to buy the Grizzlies from Michael Heisley. The sale will likely take a few months to be approved but but the 34-year-old tech magnate obviously felt like his ownership group could be more attractive with Timberlake aboard.
