Offensive coordinator Mike McCoy would probably be viewed as a mere placebo with Peyton Manning running the show in Denver. However, it was the job he did the year before that caught NFL general manager’s attention. McCoy was a year ahead of the new trend of teams using the ‘pistol’ offense; McCoy implemented the option based offense when Tim Tebow was inserted as the starter for the Broncos in 2011. McCoy is the guy who really kicked Tebow time into full gear, letting the quarterback do what he did best and not force him to be a drop back and read the field passer. Instead he built around Tebow's talents and deep ball accuracy, minimizing intermediate and short throws that wasn’t Tebow’s strength. Now, NFL teams are looking at McCoy as a top level candidate and his innovative offensive mind is exactly what some teams like the Chicago Bears are looking for in a coach. McCoy is in the middle of getting ready for the divisional round playoff round, but he is also interviewing for coaching vacancies. McCoy talks about his mindset in juggling the two without being overwhelmed. “You just have to go in there and be yourself. That is the No. 1 thing. It’s an honor to be considered for those jobs. It goes to show the type of players we have here and the organization we have here. As coaches we are all products of the players we have and the other guys we work with. We’ll see what happens,” McCoy said, via Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. “Everyone has individual goals as a coach, as a player, but it is team first." We still have a lot left here. Hopefully, one day I will become a head coach. There is still a lot of football left here and we’ll see what happens down the road.” “Until you get that job, don’t listen to anybody,” McCoy said after practice ended Thursday morning at the Broncos facility. “Seriously. Everyone had me penciled in going to Miami last year and it was a done deal, ‘Don’t get on a flight, it’s your job,’ and this and that. Hey, it’s a learning experience and every organization; every owner is different so they are looking for something different.   var switchTo5x=true; stLight.options({publisher:''});
