Ronnier Mustelier returned to action this week (Photo Credit: Trenton Thunder) Every Sunday through the remainder of the season, we will be doing a “Week in Review” of the minor league level. Covering four teams in a night gets time-consuming, and at BronxPinstripes, (I think) we want quality over quantity. Therefore, I will put all my efforts into touching on some of the big stories, hot hitters, and breakout pitching performances of the week. Headlines Musty Returns Probably the biggest story of the week within the system was the return of Ronnier Mustelier. The third baseman/outfielder completed his rehab assignment and was sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after nearly making the Yankees out of spring training this year. Through four games there this season, “Musty” is 3-for-13 with one home run. Claiborne, Joseph earn promotions A pair of prospects made it to the Bronx this week, with second baseman Corban Joseph doing a one-day stint replacing Kevin Youkilis, and Preston Claiborne being added to the 40-man roster to replace Joba Chamberlain. Claiborne pitched two innings on Sunday in his major league debut. Segedin hits the DL The Trenton Thunder lost their leading hitter when third baseman Rob Segedin was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday with right hip soreness. Segedin, who leads the team with a .338 batting average, did not believe the injury was that serious when I spoke to him last week. Players of the Week Organizational Player of the Week: Rob Refsnyder, Tampa. .318 BA (7-for-22), .464 OBP with three multi-hit games. Also stole four bases in six games this week. Organizational Pitcher of the Week: Dellin Betances, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Initially, this went to Rafael DePaula. Yet Betances threw five no-hit innings today, which ultimately put him over the top. Over two starts this week, Betances went 1-0, with 8.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 7 BB, and 9 K’s. Not a bad line for the former top prospect.
