If you believed everything that you’ve heard, you might be under the impression that we have the next Miguel Cabrera in our system. I don’t mean to burst your bubble, but I’m not signing up for that just yet. Does that mean I don’t believe in Wilmer Flores? Quite the opposite actually – I just don’t like putting lofty expectations on young players. Flores is and has always been a highly ranked prospect in the Mets system. In 2007, Flores was signed as an international prospect out of Venezuela. He has been on Baseball America’s Top 100 prospect list for a little while now. Prior to the 2009 season, he was ranked 47th. He dropped to 88th and eventually moved his way back up to 59th pre-2011. He immediately drew comparisons to Miguel Cabrera. Unfortunately for the Mets, it looked like Flores was falling flat on the expectations that were placed on him. His skill set includes an above average infield arm, and although he was originally signed as a shortstop  the consensus is that he wi...

Mets Want A Monster Package For Dickey

Andy Martino of the Daily News reports that the Mets want a ‘monster package’ for R.A. Dickey, which is likely a few high-end prospects, major leaguers, outfielders and catching help. He cites a high-ranking MLB executive, that “if the Mets don’t get this level return, they’re probably not going to trade him.” Wow, talk about too pricey… Incredible… Honestly, I don’t...

Zack Wheeler and five others added to the 40-man roster

According to multiply reports, the New York Mets announced the additions of righthanded pitchers Zack Wheeler, Hansel Robles, Gonzalez Germen and Greg Burke, lefthanded pitcher Darin Gorski and infielder Wilfredo Tovar to the 40-man roster. The move was made to protect them from being eligible for the Rule 5 draft at the winter meetings.  According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York...

Wright Decision: Where Should Mets Draw The Line On Years And Dollars

I like David Wright and want the Mets to sign him to an extension. However, the question is: For how long? The other day I wrote the Mets should get going and sign him and R.A. Dickey. What I should have said is they should put their best offer on the table, and if nothing else, be creative. My thoughts were the longer this drags on – especially after saying they wanted to get...

Down On The Farm…Not So Much Anymore

Josh Edgin is already with the Mets, Darin Gorski was just added to the 40-Man Roster, Greg Peavey is well on his way, and Zack Wheeler was also added to the 40-Man Roster. The Mets announced last night that they added six players to their 40-man roster in order to protect them from the upcoming Rule-5 Draft in December. The Rule-5 Draft is used to keep teams from stockpiling too...

Jeff Wilpon responded to a report in the New York Post and told reporters that he is more optimistic now than a month ago that the Mets can get new deals done with David Wright and R.A. Dickey. He is encouraged more and more as the process moves along because there’s been back and forth conversations, reports Marc Carig. Wilpon also added that he could see a scenario where both...

The State of The New York Mets Entering Winter Meetings

Characterizing himself as “more optimistic” than he was two months ago, Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said Tuesday that trading either David Wright or R.A. Dickey would be a last resort for the team. Speaking in Far Rockaway, Queens, where he and pitcher Matt Harvey served meals to Hurricane Sandy victims, Wilpon said his first priority is still to ink Wright and Dickey...

Mets Opening Day Tickets Cost More Than Regular Games! Duh…

If I see one more post about this newly drummed up Opening Day ticket fiasco, I think I’ll scream. Nah, not really. But I do think it’s comical reading all these posts everywhere knocking the Mets because their Opening Day tickets cost more money than an ordinary April game against the Marlins. Is that concept really that difficult to figure out? Familiar with the word capitalism...

R.A. Dickey will deservedly be accepting the Cy Young Award at the BBWAA’s annual awards dinner this January. The 38-year-old knuckleballer for the Mets, found a fitting epilogue to his storybook season tonight, when he was named winner of the 2012 National League Cy Young Award. Dickey earned 27 of 32 first-place votes, finishing ahead of Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers...

Mike Trout’s Candidacy, Sabermetrics Continue to Be Misunderstood in Wake of MVP Vote

If you believed in the MVP candidacy of Mike Trout over Miguel Cabrera, then the day since the announcement has likely been a frustrating one. Obviously there was the vote itself, in which 22 of 28 members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America said that Cabrera was the more “valuable” player in 2012 — the other six did indeed vote for Trout. But beyond the outcome...
