Juan Montoya got around the road course of Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International in 69.438 seconds during NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying on Saturday to claim the pole for Sunday’s Finger Lakes 355 at the track. It was his second-consecutive pole after claiming the pole starting spot at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway the previous weekend.
“The Target Chevy’s been really good this weekend,” Montoya said of his car. “I had a pretty good lap.”
After turning the fastest lap in final practice on Saturday morning, Kyle Busch turned in a 69.488-second qualifying lap to claim the second starting spot and start alongside Montoya on the front row Sunday.
“The No. 18 M&Ms Camry was really good during qualifying,” Busch said. “It was really fast. I thought it was good, and I thought it would be close to the pole. It was close, but it wasn’t first.”
