Apparently Onrea Jones, not Ed Gant as a previously reported, has established himself as the front runner for the fourth wide receiver position. Whisenhunt explained that “O.J. has done a great job of working hard, made a lot of plays in the OTAs and did a good job for us last year on the practice squad.” The finish line, however, is still a long way away for O.J. as it’s only OTAs.
Pro Bowl cornerback Dominique-Rodgers Cromartie tested his strained toe, but quickly decided to sit out. There’s no word on exactly how serious the injury is or whether it’s affecting his recovery from knee surgery. In addition, CB Trumaine McBride was working with CB Michael Adams on the first string, with Greg Toler working with the second team defense. Adams and McBride will obviously not be the starting CBs, but they would be a dreadful secondary to be stuck with during the season if something happened to either or both of Toler and DRC.
On the offensive line, Brandon Keith (who had been working out as the starting right tackle) flipped over to left tackle, giving Jeremy Bridges a chance to try out right tackle. Levi Brown, therefore, was left out of the mix for the time being. In addition, Rex Hadnot tweaked his knee during workouts and had to leave on a cart. It’s believed, however, that the injury is not serious.
