GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- No. 5 Florida didn't wait to give coach Will Muschamp a contract extension.
The Gators (11-1) gave him one before the season.
President Bernie Machen and athletic director Jeremy Foley met in August and agreed to extend Muschamp's contract for a year, through 2017. The Gainesville Sun first reported the extension Tuesday.
Foley says in a statement that he and Machen "believed in the leadership and direction of the football program this summer and we made a decision to extend coach Muschamp's contract an additional year this past August, prior to the start of the season."
Financial terms remain the same, giving Muschamp another year at 2.7 million annually.
In January, after the Gators finished 7-6 in Muschamp's first season, Florida picked up a one-year option in the contract.

FSU chicks knew what was coming this weekend. The Florida Gators came into Tallahassee and took care of business, holding the Seminoles scoreless in the first quarter for the first time all season. The final score was 37-26 and was the result of sloppy play by E.J. Manual and the rest of the Seminoles.
Good thing the FSU ladies got sloppy before the game so they didn’t have to...

College Cheer Heaven uncovered that a Florida State cheerleader, Mellisa, is dating senior walk-on Florida running back Scott Peek. It turns out that it doesn’t take being the star football player to date a smoking hot cheerleader.
If you ever needed proof that Nick Saban only cares about “fairness” when it benefits him or his team, this is it.
When asked about how he feels about the loser of Saturday’s SEC Championship dropping below the Florida Gators and losing a spot in the Sugar Bowl, Saban says that it isn’t fair. And to top it off, he goes as far as to say that since Florida didn’t win the...
First Down. The Florida Gators are ranked 5th in both the AP and Coaches Top 25 polls and it just doesn't seem right (#4 in BCS). They've beaten three teams currently ranked in the Top 10 (LSU, Texas A&M and South Carolina). For comparison, Notre Dame has beaten just three teams currently ranked in the entire Top 25. Florida's only loss came to 11-1 Georgia in a game...
