MY CURRENT SHOPPING LIST.

SO, what do we need?

We need 2 Cornerbacks, at least 1 Safety, A long-term answer at Offensive Tackle, depth at Defensive Tackle, and a Linebacker. So that’s what, 6 players?

If we get Safety Jarius Byrd via FA then we won’t have to use 6 of our 7 picks to fill the holes, just 5 of the 7.  Some are also asking for CB Sean Smith via FA. Signing both players is likely to chew up cap space, but it gets us to only using 4 of our 7 picks.

So now we’re left needing an OT, a DT, an OLB, and a CB. Upgrades at G, C, P, KR would be nice as well. That said I think we can get a WR/KR in the 7th, and (unless Brad Wing is still there in the 6th) we can stand to wait after the draft to get a Punter.

So far that shopping list (not in order) looks like:

OT

CB

DT

OLB

G

C

WR/KR

My guess is that the C will turn out be a QB, but a fella can dream.

  • I think we need a guard more than a tackle right now and a corners more than both. I get the feeling the Eagles won't be very active in the free agent market. They may go two players tops. If they move Nnamdi to safety, draft Milliner and sign Sean Smith they would have done well in fixing the secondary. Then you can add Byrd or sign Krueger. If they will keep their free agent number of signings low then at least one of their choices should be a guy in the secondary.
  • I agree that they probably won't do much in FA. At least in the first round of it. Come July we could see some interesting stuff happens after cutdowns. There will be a the potential to pick and choose from a lot of journeyman talent for depth purposes.
  • I get the feeling we are going to see a heavy dose of rookie free agents. The Eagles have been fairly good over the years at picking up those guys. I also think they should draft a couple corners. Still I think they are going to give Curtis Marsh a legit shot to win a job. The kid has great size and great speed. They knew he was a project when they drafted him. Now it's time for him to either perform or get gone.
  • I dunno. All of your ASSumptions- (JK. Couldn't resist.)

Seriously though, everything you said is based on how they operated with Reid and Banner. This is Kelly and Roseman, and it's already been weird.

Right now I'm painting them with the the paintbrush of team 1A in the NFL. My guesses are less about what the Eagles would do and more like what an average NFL team would do. (This is where that Titans question comes in.)

These Eagles aren't our old team. They're new and come with surprises, so this ride may get bumpy. Just remember to hold on tight.
  • You're right. I can't truly gauge what the plan is with the current Eagles front office. They seem all over the place. One moment it seems like they are trying to make a run this season, and the next they are cutting veterans and apparently going with the young guys. I am not expecting much from a 4-12 team with a new coaching staff running a new offense and defense. Even before in Andy Reid's muddle of confusion we could at least figure the plan out, but not anymore. Hopefully Chip Kelly's great plan becomes clearer as the season gets closer.
  • Now that Byrd has been franchised, this list is TOAST!

We need to get a Safety in the 1st round.
  • there's no safety worth the #4 pick. we should grab milliner to fill a CB spot and grab a safety in the 2nd. I wouldn't mind grabbing on of the other safeties in FA there is some good talent there
  • Byrd doesn't seem like the only option in free agency. Gamble has ties with Goldson and the 49ers hinted they may not pay him and with an early second could be looking to replace him there themselves so he could be an option. Moore hasn't been franchised (as of yet) and there's Glover Quinn who had a nice year with the Texans. There are also a few injury risks that play extremely well when on the field that the Eagles could take a chance on (somebody will...it would be a risk that most fans don't want to see at a spot where the Eagles have struggled but hey...Vick's back so the Eagles are still taking risks). Besides, the draft seems loaded with 2nd and 3rd round talent that could be major upgrades over what the Eagles have in their secondary. Reid is one of them but from what I am seeing and hearing there are many players that could fit the bill in the 2nd and 3rd instead of reaching on Reid with the 4th overall. Kenny Vaccaro seems to be certain to be gone and possibly Matt Elam and maybe even Reid but there are at least a half dozen other options if you listen to the analysts. Reid could still be there in the 2nd but if not the Eagles could look at TJ McDonald, JJ Wilcox, Bacarri Rambo, Johnathon Cyprien, both Philip and Shamarko Thomas or Tony Jefferson in the 2nd or 3rd rounds. The draft seeems fairly deep at safety and not many teams ever use a first on them so there will be options early in the 2nd. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the Eagles come out of the draft with Reid...just not at 4.
  • yea Reid at 4 would be too much of a gamble for me if he was worth that pick we would have already heard about it. theres some decent FA at teh safety spot this year i'd like to see the eagles grab one and draft at least one in the 2nd or 3rd
