It’s been a crazy three weeks in the NFL. If you told me before the season started that the Eagles would have the same record as San Fransisco, Green Bay, and Atlanta after the first three weeks, I’d think that was incredible. However, those three teams are not where I thought they would be in the season. One thing I did believe was that the NFC East would not be a strong conference. This was a common feeling among NFL fans. Needless to say, the teams of the NFC East have not failed to disappoint. The division contains four teams that combine for a whopping three wins. Two of those wins were pretty much forced due to division games. There aren’t ties in the NFL, right Donovan? Anyway, this all setup very well for an Eagles team that had a ton of questions coming into the season. They really kicked up the excitement when they opened against the Redskins and we really got to see what that high octane Chip Kelly offense was capable of. After the early jolt, the Birds have slowly come back down to reality. They dropped an ugly game to the Chargers that they could have easily won and then played an even uglier game against Andy Reid and the Chiefs. The most frustrating thing is that the NFC East is giving them all the opportunities in the world to be a contender for the division title. Dallas sits atop the division with a very unimpressive 2-1 record. Washington has struggled behind a quarterback that hasn’t looked the same as he did last year. Then there’s the Giants. That was an entertaining game to watch, wasn’t it? They more or less looked like the worst team in the history of sports. Maybe that’s an exaggeration but there’s just something about sad Eli that makes me extremely happy. The good news is that it’s still very early in the season. October is going to be a very important month if the Birds want to make a legitimate run for the division crown. I’m going to do us all a favor and not talk about what may happen when the Eagles play Denver. Regardless, the Eagles can position themselves well with a strong month of October. In October, the Eagles will play the Cowboys once and get two shots at the Giants. The Bucs, another 0-3 team, are the other opponent the Eagles will play that month. The Eagles may very well go into the month of October with a 1-3 record, but they can really set themselves up well if they can take care of business after the Denver game with the weak showing the NFC East has displayed so far.
