The VitalsNFL Team: Oakland RaidersPick No: 12Player Name: D.J. HaydenPosition: CornerbackSchool: University of HoustonHeight/Weight: 6'0", 192 lb How Is The Fit?He instantly becomes a starter in a talent barren secondary.A better pick here would have been…Possibly Shariff Floyd, who would have stepped right in to replace the released Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly. The Raiders still have a crater in the middle of their front seven, and Floyd would have fit in well. Sheldon Richardson and Star Lotulelei are also other options that would have filled their need at defensive tackle. The Verdict:I love this pick because he instantly upgrades a secondary that was both injury ridden and talent depleted last season. Hayden possesses all the tools to become the type of shutdown corner that nearly every NFL team desires. He's an explosive athlete that possess great quickness. He also comes with the ability to stop on a dime and change directions a requisite skill for any young corner entering the NFL.Hayden also has the speed to stay with fast receivers on deep routes, allowing him to match up well the types of freak athletes that play wide receiver in the NFL.I've just got to reiterate that this is a really good pick. Hayden has a great shot at becoming an excellent starting cornerback. After stripping the roster of bloated contracts and washed up veterans, Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie absolutely needed to restock the cupboard with young talent and D.J. Hayden is a great step towards laying the foundation of a flourishing roster.
