The one thing about the NFL that I don’t like is there is no official midseason break as opposed to every other sport. Is it after Week 8 where the majority of teams have played seven games or is it after Week 9 when some teams have played 9 games? For our sake, we’ll be rolling out our midseason content both this week and next week. If you haven’t seen it already, check out Part 1, where we looked a the key storylines over the first half of the NFL season. Top five teams so far: 1) Atlanta Falcons 7-0 Impossible to put anyone above the Falcons at this point, their offensive is explosive, their defense is suddenly hard nosed and Matt Ryan is the frontrunner for league MVP. The only question is can they continue it come playoff time? 2) New York Giants 6-2 Go ahead call me bias for picking the Giants as the second best team, but can you completely deny it. They absolutely demolished the 49ers on the road, a team many thought were the best team in the league (some still do). As they’ve proved time again, as the game winds down, if Eli has the ball in his hand the other team does not stand much of a chance. 3) Houston Texans 6-1 The Texans were firing on all cylinders before the injury to MLB Brian Cushing. After getting trounced by Aaron Rodger’s Packers they bounced back nicely and dominated one of the few other contenders in the AFC in Baltimore. The loss of Cushing hurts, but the defense is still one of the best units in the league. Oh yea, and Arian Foster’s no slouch either. 4) Chicago Bears 6-1 Some thought it was ridiculous when I picked the Bears to dethrone the Packers in the NFC North in my bold predictions piece before the season. While their lone loss is the Packers the Bears defense looks as good if not better than it did when they went to the Super Bowl in 2006. Jay Cutlers been very okay this year, if he and the rest of the offense can play up to their potential just imagine how tough the Bears will be. 5) San Francisco 49ers 6-2 The 49ers are not comfortable playing from behind, which is definitely an issue. However, if Alex Smith can continue to play half as good as he did Monday night against a more than solid Arizona Cardinal defense, this team will go far with its already potent defense and running game. Playoff Predictions from this point on: NFC: 1) Atlanta Falcons 2) Chicago Bears 3) New York Giants 4) San Francisco 49ers 5) Green Bay Packers 6) Seattle Seahawks AFC: 1) Houston Texans 2) Baltimore Ravens 3) New England Patriots 4) Denver Broncos 5) Pittsburgh Steelers 6) Miami Dolphins
