HOUSTON (21) d BUFFALO (9) The Headline: Texans corral the Bills for an easy home win The Story: Much had been made about Mario Williams’ return to Houston where he spent the first six years of his career. The split between Williams and the front office was far from amicable by the sounds of it, as they reportedly made no effort to even retain Williams, something which did not sit well with him. He got the chance to make his mark in the second quarter, sacking Matt Schaub and celebrating in front of his former fans, who made their feelings towards Williams clear with a series of boos. This game was not as close as the final score may suggest as you could feel that Houston was in control despite only rarely showing flashes of their potential. It was 7-6 at halftime before Foster’s touchdown run gave the Texans breathing space and a Garret Graham touchdown reception in the final quarter made the result final and moved Houston to 7-1. Key Stat: C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson: 12 combined carries (6 each), 60 total yards (39 and 21 respectively) Your team is first and foremost a running team, with two really good running backs and you decide to only give them 6 carries each?! Good coaching decision Mr Gailey, that may explain why your team has underachieved so far. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a disappointment so far so the right thing to do is make him throw the ball nearly 40 times against one of the best defenses in the league. No wonder they only got 9 points. Key Play: Matt Schaub 39 yard TD pass to Owen Daniels for a touchdown You would think a tight end would be pretty easy to cover, he’s a big guy, usually not the fastest on the field but he managed to find plenty of space down the right sideline for a score early in the first quarter to open the afternoon’s scoring. Man of the Match: Arian Foster 24 carries, 111 yards, 1 touchdown Long term, this workload for Foster is definitely not something that can be sustained and you have to worry about him breaking down as the season goes along but the Texans are riding the hot hands (or legs) of their star running back. He helped his team control the tempo of the game while opening up the passing game t help his quarterback to another good day thanks to the effectiveness of their play-action moves.
