PLAYERS: Ian Kinsler
TEAMS: Texas Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas Ian Kinsler was more concerned about Opening Day than a new contract Friday morning. The Texas second baseman said there were no new details on contract talks. "I'm concentrating on playing baseball," he said. "I'm not really worried about that. We've got a game today." Kinsler hinted that the sides nearly reached a deal. "Close enough to be disappointed," he said. "But it's not done." He reiterated that he didn't want to have contract talks drag into the season. "It's going to be something that if they do continue talking I'm not involved anymore," he said. "I really don't want to be involved anymore. If that happens, I'm no longer involved in it and it becomes a one phone call type of thing I guess." Kinsler will make 7 million this season and the club has an option for 2013 that will pay him 10 million.

Nolan Ryan and Robin Ventura met to call peace after their infamous 1993 brawl that occurred after Ventura charged the mound.

Rangers enter season with high expectations

For nearly 40 years, opening day for the Texas Rangers only offered hope if you ignored reality and history. Even when the organization won the AL West three times in the 1990s, it was never a serious threat to make it past the New York Yankees. But coming off back-to-back trips to the World Series, the Rangers have become one of baseball's superpowers. It would be considered...

Robin Ventura and Nolan Ryan have spoken for the first time since their infamous brawl 19 seasons ago. Ryan, the Hall of Fame pitcher who is the Texas Rangers president, went to the visitors' clubhouse before Friday's opener to wish good luck to Ventura before his managerial debut for the Chicago White Sox. It was their first meeting since a hot August night at old Arlington...

Rangers honor fallen fan with statue

The Texas Rangers honored the memory of a fan who fell to his death last year, unveiling a life-size statue of the man and his son. Shannon Stone was killed when he fell over a railing during a game in July 2011 while attempting to catch a ball thrown to him by Rangers left fielder Josh Hamilton. Stone's 7-year-old son, Cooper, and his widow, Jenny, attended Thursday's...

Texas Rangers unveiled a statue for fan who died

One of the most heartbreaking stories last season was the one of Shannon Stone, a Texas Rangers fan, who was just enjoying the day at the ballpark with his six-year-old son.   He was about to retrieve what we all hope for when we go to games with our fathers or our sons, an official Major League Baseball.   As you know, he reached out for it when Josh Hamilton threw it into the...

Ventura debuts for White Sox at Ryan's Rangers

Robin Ventura hasn't spoken to Nolan Ryan since charging the mound against the Hall of Fame pitcher 19 seasons ago. When Ventura makes his managerial debut for the Chicago White Sox on Friday in a season opener at Texas, Ryan will be sitting in the front row of his team's new-look ballpark. Six months after being hired for his first managing job, Ventura's first game...

Rangers provide a perfect opening act

ARLINGTON It's hard to believe, but the Texas Rangers used to lose a lot of these Opening Day games. Even with a four-game winning streak heading into Friday's opener, they still had lost of nine of their last 14 Day 1 outings. But those struggles felt like ancient history in the aftermath of a 3-2 win over the Chicago White Sox on Friday. This has turned into perhaps...

Rangers Minor League Roundup – 4/5

Four Frisco RoughRiders pitchers combined to post an opening-day shutout of the Springfield Cardinals, allowing only four hits and striking out 16 batters on Thursday. Lone Star Dugout takes a look at all of the day's minor league action in the Texas Rangers' system.

Texas Rangers Season Preview

This is arguably the greatest day of the year. The Texas Rangers begin their defense of the AL Crown, and look to get back to the World Series for the third straight season (and maybe they’ll just win the damn thing this time). I’ll probably never fully recover from the beating my sports heart took [...]
