This has been a disappointing season for the Boston Red Sox and the news just got worse for the team from Beantown. OF Carl Crawford will undergo surgery on his left elbow ulnar collateral ligament tear. Crawford missed the first 89 games of the 2012 season for the Red Sox and joined the MLB franchise shortly after the All-Star break. Crawford had thoughts about having Tommy John surgery before re-joining the Red Sox but decided to try to play through the pain. The sppedy outfielder was able to hit three home runs, drive in 19 runs and hit .282 in his limited time with Boston this season before opting for surgery. Recovery time for the Tommy John procedure can take up to 9 months. It is unknown if Crawford will be available to the Red Sox at the start of Spring Training. After signing a $142 million dollar multi-season deal with the Red Sox as a free agent, Crawford has not paid dividends on the team’s investment. Crawford has appeared in just 161 games in two seasons while collecting 162 hits, 75 RBIs and just 23 stolen bases.
