Training camp is one thing. Branden Oliver has impressed there, a 5-foot-8 rookie running back with moves and pop. He created chatter among veterans. They wanted to see what he could do against defenders green lit to tackle. Dontrelle Inman was consistent. The former CFL wide receiver matured over two seasons in Toronto, a 6-foot-3 target who played older than his age of 25 . Practicing well is fine and good. But roster cuts are survived with games like the one they had Thursday night. Oliver dazzled during a 27-7 exhibition win over the Cowboys, taking his seven carries for 64 yards. They included a 27-yard rush and a 16-yard touchdown gallop. Inman, meanwhile, had three receptions for 107 yards. He caught a deep ball behind an albeit porous secondary for a 70-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Ninety players currently are on the Chargers' roster. They must cut to 53 by Aug. 30. As early as it is, it would shock if Inman is not inside University of Phoenix Stadium on Sept. 8 to face the Cardinals. He is that advanced in his game, all that after-hour work with wide receiver Eddie Royal paying dividends. They do extra drills after practice along with other training to the side.
