After the Orioles’ sweep over the Yankees I wrote a post called “The psychology of winning,” then life happened and I didn't get a chance to post it. Basically it was about how this team simply knows how to win. They aren't fazed by the great Yankee mystique anymore and, while the Yankee lineup is terrible, it represented a psychological milestone for this team. Since then, the Orioles lost a series against a woeful Chicago White Sox team and have dropped two to that very same Yankee team who is riding a six game winning streak coming into today. The Orioles’ bats this week have largely been silent and they have lost each of their last three games by one run. Two of those losses came in the ninth inning as late inning relief has faltered. Today I woke up to a blog post over at Orioles Hangout entitled: “Sinking Ship.” And the boards are littered with threads foretelling the coming doom of the franchise. Some even go as far to postulate that Buck Showalter is losing t...

Rely on Brian Roberts? Or will the Baltimore Orioles seek an upgrade?

(Derick E. Hingle – USA TODAY Sports) The Baltimore Orioles addressed one of their needs earlier this week when they acquired starting pitcher Scott Feldman from the Chicago Cubs. What other moves could the Orioles make to bolster their roster? Perhaps the weakest spot in the Baltimore lineup is second base. The name Brian Roberts might as well have been printed in the leadoff...

Manny Machado makes great throw after bobble

I would tell you that Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado’s amazing throw to first base to throw out Luis Cruz reminded me of Brooks Robinson, but I would be lying, since I never saw Brooks Robinson play. That’s what all the old guys on Twitter were saying. Nevertheless, it is a spectactular play: Yes, had Machado fielded it cleanly it would have been a normal groundout...

Chris Davis Still Considers Roger Maris Single-Season Home Run Record Holder

If Chris Davis keeps up his current home run pace, he’ll finish one behind the MLB single-season home run record — at least, in his opinion, he will. The Orioles first basemen is on pace for 60 home runs. Even though Roger Maris was passed multiple times in the late ’90s and early ’00s, Davis still considers the former Yankees outfielder the single-season home run champ....

Chris Davis still views Roger Maris as the single-season home run record holder

Chris Davis arrived at Yankee Stadium Friday night leading the American league with 32 home runs — mathematically putting him on a pace to hit 60 this season. There have only been eight instances where a player has jacked 60 or more homers in a season — six with 63 or more— but the Baltimore Orioles slugger still believes the Holy Grail of home run totals is still Roger Maris...

Bugg turns down the Baltimore Orioles

LSU signee Parker Bugg missed most of his senior season because of an injury. However, that didn't stop the Baltimore Orioles from drafting him in the 34th round of the 2013 Draft. Bugg received a very serious offer from the organization, but it wasn't enough to keep him from Baton Rouge.

Adam Jones takes out hitless night on batting helmet

Adam Jones had a rough night against the New York Yankees Friday but it looks like his batting helmet had it tougher. After striking out against Ivan Nova during last night's 3-2 loss at Yankee Stadium, the Baltimore Orioles slugger did something with his bat he couldn't do all night — hit something. Jones took out his 0-for-4 frustration out on his helmet as he walked...

Your Oriole All-Stars....

I didn't catch the All-Star selection show this evening; however, I was pleasantly surprised to see four members of the Baltimore Orioles make the 2013 All-Star team. Chris Davis - who garnered the most votes of anyone despite not being a household name until this season - along with Adam Jones, J.J. Hardy and Manny Machado are on the team. Davis, Jones and Hardy...

JIm Johnson Blows it Again For the Orioles...

We all pretty much know what happened last night up in the Bronx. After losing two out of three against the lowly Chicago White Sox, the Orioles needed on Friday against the rival New York Yankees. They were on their way there, leading 2-1 in a tight game in the ninth inning. Then, Jim Johnson came into the contest. He imploded again in an ugly ninth inning. The Yankees would...

Orioles Salvage Series Against Yankees; Thoughts About The Team Right Now...

The Orioles did not have a good weekend up in New York City and were on their way to a demoralizing three-game sweep. For the most part, Baltimore had good pitching in the series; however, the offense could not come through as needed. Across Birdland, fans were fretting on sports talk radio and online about the state of the team. Little had gone right for the Orioles until this...
