Since losing Braxton Miller to season-ending shoulder surgery, Ohio State has seen its national championship odds drop from 12-to-1 to 50-to-1 in some Las Vegas sportsbooks. Michigan State has become the clear-cut Big Ten favorite in the minds of most, too.  One college football coach disagrees with the dropping of expectations for the Miller-less Buckeyes.  In a report for CBS Sports, Jeremy Fowler asked a variety of college football coaches for their thoughts on the topic. One West Coach coach thinks Ohio State will be fine because he doesn’t believe the Buckeyes’ would-be Heisman contender is a “great player.” Talked to ton of HCs about Braxton/Ohio St. One thinks Buckeyes fine since Braxton ‘good not great’ http://t.co/fC6BCSJu1S — Jeremy Fowler (@JFowlerCBS) August 23, 2014 “Some offenses can survive it fine if there’s a great supporting cast,” the West Coach coach said. “I don’t think Miller is a great player. Good but not great.” The coach also added that Miller is “very streaky” as a passer.  It’s true that Miller’s passing has been suspect at times. Miller, who’s thrown for 5,292 yards and 52 touchdowns in his career, completed just 38 percent of his passes for 101 yards in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game.  Does that mean he isn’t a great player, though? Not in the minds of most people who follow college football. ESPN ranked Miller as the country’s fifth-best player in early August. Sports On Earth had Miller at No. 8 in its top 100 ranking. Being a top-ten player probably should equate to “great” status.  There were some who thought differently, though. National Football Post ranked Miller as the country’s 25th-best player.  How would you rate Miller’s abilities, Ohio State fans? The Buckeyes open the 2014 season Aug. 30 against Navy. Redshirt freshman J.T. Barrett is expected to start at quarterback.  [CBS Sports]
