The Baltimore Orioles have acquired utility infielder Omar Quintanilla from the New York Mets for cash considerations. Quintanilla, 30, was designated for assignment earlier this week. He batted .257 in 29 games with the Mets this season. Quintanilla will be added to the 25-man roster Saturday and a corresponding roster move will be made. Quintanilla, a .218 career hitter, has played with Colorado, Texas and the Mets in parts of seven seasons. Right-hander Brad Bergesen, who was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Wednesday, has been claimed off waivers by Arizona. He has not pitched in the majors this season.

Seinfeld tweets about Mets homer

Die-hard Mets fan Jerry Seinfeld took to Twitter to comment on how a David Wright home run went right over a sign that was advertising reruns of his classic TV show.

Harvey in the bullpen could be Mets best bet in 2012

Despite management’s decision to have Miguel Batista start on Saturday, there is a great outcry to have 2010 first round pick Matt Harvey called up and fill the void in the rotation left by Dillon Gee’s blood clot injury. The logic makes sense. Harvey has handled triple-A pretty well and the Mets seem to lack the depth necessary to effectively fill in for Gee. Even if Gee was...

Harvey Could Still Get Call If Batista Fails To Impress On Saturday

It looks like this is the story that won’t go away this season. It feels like every week going back to Spring Training we’ve been reading or hearing about Matt Harvey after every mound appearance and then some. I often wonder if it’s like this with all teams regarding their top prospects or if this is something that is exclusive to Mets fans? We like to hold all our prospects...

The Rise And Fall of Johan Santana

How the mighty have fallen. Johan Santana, whose bounceback campaign hit an unexpected high on June 1 when he threw the franchise’s first no-hitter, has not only come back to Earth, but he’s done it in a way no one could see coming. Through his first 11 starts of the season, which ended with the hitless gem, the southpaw was vintage Santana, going 3-2 with a 2.38 ERA, 1.03...

Mets' Santana goes on 15-day DL

Johan Santana has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right ankle, the latest setback for the fading New York Mets since the All-Star break. The left-hander has struggled mightily since Reed Johnson of the Chicago Cubs stepped on his ankle July 6 on a play at first base. The Mets decided Saturday to put their ace on the DL so his ankle can fully heal and he can also...

Pre-Game: Dodgers (50-44) @ Mets (47-46)

Miguel Batista makes his fifth start of the season for the Mets in place of the injured Dillon Gee Coming off of a 7-6 loss last night the Mets try to stay above .500 with a win on Saturday against the Dodgers. The Mets send Miguel Batista to the hill looking to stop the string of loses the Mets have endured since the All Star Game. Batista is opposed by former Met Chris Capuano...

Miguel Batista believes the Mets are ‘the best team in baseball’

After last night’s loss to the Nationals, the New York Mets have now lost 6 straight. Miguel Batista gave up what ended up being the game deciding two-run double to Steve Lombardozzi in the 4-3 loss. But none of that has changed the way Batista feels about his team. In fact, despite the 6 losses in a row and 2-8 record in the last ten games, Batista still believes the Mets are...

Johan Santana Placed on 15-Day DL

This is breaking news from the MLB’s twitter account. Mets ace pitcher Johan Santana has a right ankle sprain that will force him to go on the 15-Day DL. BREAKING: @Mets place LHP Johan Santana on 15-day DL with right ankle sprain. — MLB (@MLB) July 21, 2012 Sports Illustrated provides the reason in their article here. On July 6th, Cubs outfielder Reed Johnson stepped on Santana’s...

I Really Hate Writing Recaps When The Mets Lose

MIGUEL BATISTA: The Little Engine That Couldn’t Another late Mets rally falls short… It’s becoming a common theme so far in the second half. Starting pitcher gets bashed, bullpen allows more runs, Mets try to catch-up, Mets run out of outs, game over. I am fully aware and can truly appreciate all of the careful thought, the endless calculating, the hours of scouting, that...

Thome belts 610th career homer

The Orioles have added veteran sluggers before. Eddie Murray returned and hit No. 500 as an Oriole in 1996. Sammy Sosa already had 500 when he hit 14 homers for Baltimore in 2005. Jim Thome was acquired June 30 from Philadelphia sitting in a tie with Sosa for seventh all-time with 609 homers. No. 610 came Friday -- his first homer with the Orioles coming in the city where...

Video: Mike Piazza’s former playmate wife thinks Roger Clemens had roid rage

Sometimes we get an excellent sound bite from athletes, but even less frequently, we get it from their wives. Former New York Mets great Mike Piazza and his former playmate wife Alicia Rickter were caught on camera by TMZ and asked about whether or not they believe if Roger Clemens was using performance-enhancing drugs during [...]
