As details begin to emerge about the murder of Reeva Steenkamp and the subsequent arrest of Olympian Oscar Pistorius, it seems that it will be very difficult for Pistorius to explain Steenkamp’s death away.
In the past 24 hours, there has been a report that police were called to Pistorius’s residence hours before the shooting. And if that isn’t damning enough, there is also a report that Pistorius shot Steenkamp through a bathroom door. Which has prompted prosecutors to pursue a premeditated murder charge.
But even with all those details against him, Pistorius denies that he murdered Steenkamp. And he denies it in the “strongest terms”.
Here’s the statement that was read in court on behalf of Pistorius on Friday:
“Oscar Pistorius has appeared in court here in Pretoria this morning formally charged with the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms.”
