(Eds: Corrects Oregon State's ranking. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JOHN MARSHALL AP College Football Writer Oregon State has been one of college football's unexpected stories after winning its first three games.
The 14th-ranked Beavers' surprise rise has been part of a jumbled start to the Pac-12 season.
The conference has six teams ranked in the Top 25, most since 2002, but there have been some unpredictable twists so far.
Arizona State, under new coach Todd Graham, leads the North after winning it first two conference games.
Southern California had its national-title hopes dented with a conference-opening loss to Stanford, which lost to surprising Washington in its next game.
Utah, a preseason pick to challenge USC in the South, is 2-2 and California hasn't lived up to expectations, either.
And, with two months still to go, there could be plenty more surprises in store.

The folks over at Deadspin noticed a particularly strange quote from College Gameday’s Desmond Howard, where he lets us all know how he’s not buying the Oregon State Beavers and unlike his colleague, David Pollack, he’s not sippin’ that “Beaver juice.”
Then this happened. Enjoy.

Sean Mannion led the Beavers through a second half shootout with 433 yards to make Mike Riley the winningest coach in Oregon State football’s history. Going undefeated in September sets Oregon State up for a good season, one that will end versus the mighty Ducks. Although a long road to the Pac-12 Championship, the clutch win against Arizona shows that Oregon State are serious...
While you and everyone else who has paid attention to college football this season sees Alabama as the far and away #1 team in America, two important pieces of the BCS equation does not. And though it’s early and things will change, at this particular junction of the season, Oregon State is currently the #1 in America according to two computers used in the BCS formula.
BYU is debuting their new Nike “Blackout” uniforms on October 13th against the Oregon State Beavers. Fans of the Cougars are also encouraged to wear black as part of a stadium blackout.
Alternative uniforms can range from the good to bad to atrocities. Also see. And don’t forget. However, I think BYU’s blackout uniforms look very good. I reserve final judgement until...
IT JUST WASN’T that long ago, and it seemed like it went on forever this offseason -- anyone and everyone was raising the specter of Mike Riley being on shaky ground at Oregon State. It all now seems as laughable as dogs playing poker.
OREGON STATE SOPHOMORE flanker Brandin Cooks was among 11 players added mid-season to the Biletnikoff Award Watch List Tuesday. The award annually recognizes the outstanding receiver in college football.
ON PAPER, Saturday’s game against WSU is a total mismatch in Oregon State's favor -- but OSU cannot afford to get cocky despite three headline making wins, two of which were on the road. Expect the unexpected in the Pac-12. And the Cougs will be looking to give the Beavs a dose of exactly that, on the prowl and hoping to upset No.14/17 OSU in Corvallis. So who has the edge? Glad you asked...
