Catcher Nick Hundley went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs and outfielder Jeremy Hermida hit a two-run home run and the San Diego Padres rallied for an 8-7 win over the San Francisco Giants on Friday. Pablo Sandoval went 2 for 5 with a three-run homer for San Francisco, which received another poor outing from Barry Zito. Zito allowed five earned runs and seven hits and walked three in three innings. Buster Posey and Aubrey Huff each had two hits for the Giants, who scored all seven of their runs in the fifth inning. Outfielder Kyle Blanks, who had been limited to one at-bat since March 18 with a sore left shoulder, went 3 for 4 with an RBI double for the Padres. San Diego pitcher Dustin Moseley allowed seven runs, four earned, and nine hits in five innings. Giants setup man Sergio Romo allowed three runs.

Virgin America puts Brian Wilson beard on its Giants plane (Picture)

The Giants began a partnership with the Virgin America airline last year, so what better way to kick things off with a team plane that features a Brian Wilson beard at the nose. In addition to decking out an Airbus A320 jet with Giants logos, the club level at AT&T Park is named after Virgin America, and a high-end bar named “The Virgin America Flight Deck” was created...

SF Giants Rumors: Who’s Making The Roster?

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle says the San Francisco Giants are going to carry 12 pitchers to start the regular season.   That’s very bad news for position players on the bubble like Brandon Belt, Brett Pill and Hector Sanchez. You can subtract Sanchez from that final roster spot. The Giants will go with either Chris Stewart or Eli Whiteside. If the Giants really...

SF Giants Rumors: Parting Ways With Fontenot, Get Breaking News To Your Mobile Phone!

The San Francisco Giants have decided to part ways with infielder Mike Fontenot. Which means another player from the 2010 World Series team is gone. I really liked Fontenot and everything he brought to the team. SF Giants Rumors wishes you the best of luck Fontenot!   When this breaking news came out. I was able to update the SF Giants Rumors Facebook page right away. I also sent...

SF Giants Rumors: Brandon Crawford To Surprise Some People, Roster Trim Coming

Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News says it’s just Spring Training, but shortstop Brandon Crawford has looked like a different guy with the bat, and he’s looking like he’ll take that into the regular season.   “He’s playing with a lot of confidence,” said manager Bruce Bochy. “We’re optimistic that he’s going to contribute. He’s going to surprise some...

Giants-themed Virgin America plane comes with a beard (Photo)

Virgin America apparently has a branding agreement with the San Francisco Giants that allows the ball club to have a plane emblazoned with its logos. Here’s a photo of it. But, as you can see, that’s not all. At the front of the aircraft, the plane sports a beard, referencing the Giants’ famously bearded weirdo closer, Brian Wilson. Already this plane is funnier than Wilson...

Giants Release Mike Fontenot

In a surprising move today, the Giants cut 2B Mike Fontenot. Fontenot came over in an August trade with the Cubs for OF Evan Crawford. Last year he hit .227/.304/.377 in 252 PA’s. His release likely solidifies Ryan Theriot’s roster spot as well as gives Joaquin Arias and Brett Pill an easier path to a spot on the opening day roster. Were it up to me I would have started Fontenot...

Being smart with Cain is downright stupid

I really don't know what they're waiting for. Maybe Larry Baer is going to see if he and Sabean won the Mega Millions on Friday night before they make a real offer to Matt Cain.I suppose an infusion of cash like that could certainly change negotiations between Cainer and the Giants, but let's not count on it.What I don't understand is why this is taking so long. What...

Yes, That Virgin America San Francisco Giants Plane Has Brian Wilson Beard

The San Francisco Giants have their own Virgin America plane, which makes sense, since Virgin is the only airline based out of SFO. Unlike other team planes, which sport a logo, the Giants has a little extra touch. In addition to the logo, the team’s plane has a little extra touch, a beard right below the nose of the plane. Virgin says it’s to honor the “facial-hair friendly”...

Giants place four players on DL

The San Francisco Giants placed second baseman Freddy Sanchez on the 15-day disabled list Friday along with pitchers Ryan Vogelsong, Eric Surkamp and Dan Runzler.Sanchez underwent labrum surgery on his right shoulder last summer and isn't quite ready to return to the lineup. Vogelsong strained his back lifting weights last month before arriving to spring training. Surkamp has...

Cain agrees to $127.5M deal with Giants

Matt Cain has that hefty new contract he hoped for before opening day. Cain and the San Francisco Giants agreed Monday to a $127.5 million, six-year contract, the largest deal for a right-handed pitcher in baseball history. The agreement adds $112.5 million over five years to the $15 million salary for 2012 that was remaining in his previous deal. Cain gets a $5 million signing...

Padres, LHP Luebke agree to three-year contract extension

The San Diego Padres signed left-handed pitcher Cory Luebke to a three-year, $12 million contract extension Friday with club options for two more seasons.Luebke, who will make $500,000 this season, received an additional $500,000 in the form of a signing bonus. The 27-year-old appeared in 46 games for the Padres last season and posted a record of 6-10 with a 3.29 ERA.

San Francisco Giants Want Barry Zito to Be More Like Jamie Moyer?

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher is still just 33-years-old, meaning his age should not be a factor in his level of success on the mound. If any one has proven that age is not an issue, ask the newly anointed No. 2 starting pitcher in the Colorado Rockies rotation, Jamie Moyer, who is 49-years-old as he enters the start of his 25th MLB season. Yet one could argue...

One of these isn't like the other...

Grant at McCovey Chronicles took a look at the Giants history of evaluating hitters and in the process posted a table that I want to take a look at further. Giants since 2005: 2005: .319 on-base percentage (29th out of 30 teams), .714 OPS (28th), 86 OPS+ (29th), 649 runs scored (29th) 2006: .324 on-base percentage (28th), .746 OPS (25th), 90 OPS+ (24th), 746 runs...
