Friars Falter in Final Two Games, Lose Series To Arizona

The Padres had a huge team win featuring a big eighth inning where they batted around to take game one of the series, Friday night. But their bullpen couldn’t keep them in it on Saturday, and the offense took Sunday off, as they lost yet another series to Arizona. Yasmani Grandal looked impressive in his inning and a half of play on Saturday night but was surprisingly sent back...

Daily Friar 6.3.12

The offensive explosion we saw on Friday night couldn't repeat itself yesterday. Instead we had a pitcher's duel most of the game, and it really was a close game. Also the Padres made things a little interesting in the 9th, but it ulitmately ended on a caught line drive off Jesus Guzman's bat. It's Sunday now and that means time for the rubber match. It feels like...

Padres Select Max Fried seventh overall

The San Diego Padres selected left-hander Max Fried with the seventh overall selection in the 2012 MLB Draft. Here is a scouting report with video on Fried.

Forget about bobbleheads. Let’s get crunk in Tucson.

The Triple-A Tucson Padres, whose attendance this year has been a little slow, have come up with a promotion that’s either genius or reckless, depending on your point of view. If you happen to live in a large house with Greek letters on the front, you probably think the Kino Krawl is super awesome. The deal: you buy a ticket for Friday’s game (cost: $15) and in addition to admission...

Padres 6, Giants 5

Logan Forsythe hit his first major league home run leading off the ninth inning to lift the San Diego Padres to a 6-5 victory against the San Francisco Giants on Tuesday night. Forsythe hit a 1-0 pitch from Steve Edlefsen (0-1) into the second deck in left field. Huston Street (1-0), who came off the disabled list earlier in the day, pitched the ninth for the win, escaping a bases...

MadFriars' Farm Report June 5

It takes one amazing rally to have Yasmani Grandal score Jedd Gyorko on a home run, THE SAME INNING that Jedd Gyorko hit a grandslam! Way to go T-Pads

Get Excited for Max Fried

In yesterday's Major League baseball draft with the 7th pick the San Diego Padres selected Max Fried out of Harvard-Westlake High School in Studio City, California. A highly touted 6'4 pitcher, who will undoubtedly spend time in the minors but has major league ability.  We will no doubt keep an eye on his progress but he has serious potential to be the next...

Daily Friar 6.4.12

Happy draft day everyone! Alright it's not just one day, but today is the first day of the three day draft. Day one should be exciting for all Padres fans because we have a slew of first round picks to come. This means that if we draft smartly then we could make the number one farm system in the league even better. We're going to need a good farm system with the way the Padres...

If the Hat Fits, Boo It.

Crush ‘em, beat ‘em. Make them cry! These are the things that used to run through my head and definitely out my mouth when my beloved Padres faced the hated Giants. Even a year ago I would condone the slaughter of both pandas and baby giraffes. “Zombie Nation” was not allowed to play in my household because after a RBI extra base hit, we listened to “Sandstorm”. And...

Giants-Padres Preview

Tim Lincecum's last win came more than a month ago against the San Diego Padres. A visit to Petco Park might help end his roughest stretch of the season. The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner looks to avoid losing a fourth consecutive start by trying to continue his dominance over the Padres on Tuesday night. Lincecum (2-6, 5.82 ERA) is 0-4 with a 5.88 ERA in six starts since...

LHP Andrew Heaney looks to contribute to the Miami Marlins as soon as 2013

Despite last night’s ghastly 11-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves, the Miami Marlins realize their ugly April is behind them and they will continue to win. Their timely hitting, solid pitching, and the return(ing) of CP Heath Bell has been the recipe for victories across the board. The last time the Miami Marlins lost a series is more ancient history than contemporary....
