The Majors Detroit:
After a season of that had it’s ups and certainly it’s downs, the Detroit Tigers finally put the dagger in the race for the AL Central with a 6-3 win over the Kansas City Royals Monday night. And for the first time since 1934 and 1935 the Tigers have made consecutive playoff appearances, under the direction of Jim Leyland mind you.
Tigers starter Rick Porcello earned his 10th win of the season after what looked to be a pitching duel with Tiger killer Bruce Chen early on. However Jhonny Peralta who’s had a quiet season at the dish got the Tigers on the board first with a solo shot to left field in the 5th inning.
And from there the flood gates opened up on the crafty left hander Chen.
In the 6th, Miguel Cabrera took a big step forward in his quest for the Triple Crown belting his 44th home run of the season to take an outright lead in all three triple crown statistical categories. Cabrera ended up going 4 for 5 raising his batting average .329 with 137 RBIs.
