#Pirates will extend Hurdle thru 2014 with option for 2015 — Rob Biertempfel (@BiertempfelTrib) February 18, 2013   I don’t think there are too many fans out there who really care for Clint Hurdle all that much, at least not fans who read this site, but it’s hard to argue against this move. The Pirates have actually been playoff contenders pretty deep into both seasons Hurdle has been at the helm and have improved under him both seasons. Sure, there were epic collapses both years. Sure, there were countless sacrifice bunts. Sure, there were way too many dumb stolen base attempts. Sure, there are hundreds of dollars worth of bubble gum expenses. But in the end, wins and losses are what count, and the Pirates have won more games under Hurdle than previous managers have been able to.

Under Hurdle, the Pirates are 151-173 and have finished in fourth place in the NL Central in back to back seasons. Now, here's why I think this extension is silly: it's not essential...

Pirates #Hurdled For Two More Years

Rob Biertempfel is reporting that the Pirates will extend Clint Hurdle.  This announcement came on Twitter so I can’t share the status as I am blocked. Clint Hurdle has led the Pirates to a record of 151-173 over his two years as Bucco skipper.  That’s a winning percentage of .466.  That number is shockingly close…

Brandon Inge underwent shoulder surgery last September, effectively ending his season with the Oakland Athletics.  Since then, he became a free agent and eventually signed a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Inge is hoping to break camp with the Pirates on their Major League roster, but much of that will depend on the health of his shoulder. It's clear that...
