On paper, if ASU was looking for a contest to bounce back from a four-game skid, then a home date with a struggling Washington State team (2-8, 0-7 Pac-12) is exactly what the doctor ordered. Then again, despite their record the Cougars at times have proven to be a formidable opponent with a very potent passing offense. How will the Sun Devils fair in their last home games of the 2012 season?
Saturday's showdown with Washington State may have marked the final farewell for a number of Sun Devil seniors as Arizona State played its final home game of the season, but perhaps more importantly, it marked a much welcomed change as ASU snapped its four game losing streak, defeating the Cougars 46-7 and became bowl eligible for the second consecutive season.
THE COUGARS WERE a sobering sight Saturday afternoon. After last week’s promising near-comeback at home against a superior UCLA team, the team seemed poised to carry that momentum over to the desert and give a struggling Arizona State all it could handle. Instead, they got burned, big time, leaving many asking where this team actually stands.
WASHINGTON STATE'S season from hell reached new depths at the hands of the Sun Devils on Saturday. The Cougs now have but one game left to avoid the ultimate humilation: going winless in conference play for the second time in four seasons. WSU lost its fifth consecutive game at ASU, 46-7, in dispiriting fashion.
ON FRIDAY and as expected, the Washington State Board of Regents put their stamp of approval on the $61 million football operations building. Time won’t be wasted – construction begins this month. The Regents, I was announced Friday morning by the school, approved the project by a unanimous vote.
AN OFFICIAL VISIT to Washington State can change a lot of things for a prospect. It can both dispel preconceived notions and create new ones. And for a visitor this past weekend out of California, it can also mean he comes out of the trip with a new leader.
TWO STAR California high school running backs and future Washington State Cougars helped their teams to playoff victories over the weekend that propel them into their respective state semifinals.
