PLAYERS: D.J. Hayden
After swapping picks with the Dolphins earlier in the round, the Raiders used the 12th overall pick to select Houston cornerback D.J. Hayden. There was a lot of chatter that the Raiders were think defensive tackle with the pick. Sharrif Floyd and Star Lotulelei would have been available options if the Raiders took that route. There was even a thankfully false rumor spreading around the Twitterverse the Raiders were about to spend the pick on quarterback Geno Smith. But Reggie McKenzie is a draft-the-best-player-available kind of guy. And clearly he had Hayden as the highest remaining player on his board, which is a tad surprising because Floyd was projected as going to the Raiders when they still had the third overall pick. Cornerback was one position at which Oakland needed help entering the draft. Hayden was considered by some the best available cornerback after the Jets selected Dee Milliner at nine. Hayden suffered a life-threatening injury during the season when he ruptured a ...

First Round NFL Draft Grades: Oakland Raiders

PICK: D.J. Hayden, CB, HoustonANALYSIS: When I heard this morning that Hayden was being considered as the first or second CB in the draft, I actually laughed. I knew he might sneak into the end of round one despite being a second round prospect, but I never imagined him going this high. His story and return from a life threatening injury is certainly inspiring, but he just isn...

DJ Hayden could go No. 3 to Oakland Raiders?

DJ Hayden is one of the top cornerback prospects in the NFL Draft, and there is speculation that he could go as high as No. 3 overall to the Oakland Raiders. Such a rise in his status is pretty shocking. D.J. Hayden’s Freak injury Shouldn’t Concern Patriots as He Would Make Immediate Impact in Secondary

D.J. Hayden is lucky to be living, never mind gearing up to figure out where he will play in the NFL. Hayden was on his way to being a first-round pick when a freak collision in practice left him with a tear of the inferior vena cava, which carries blood from the lower half of the body to the heart. Luckily, doctors were able to fix the issue and he is on his way to making a full...

And with 12th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft the Oakland Raider select…

DJ Hayden CB from the University of Houston.  This is a bit of a surprise pick for the Raiders (from the Dolphins pick) but a good one.  Hayden has speed to burn which you can’t teach. But there is a risk. Hayden started the first nine games of the season in top form. Over that span, he had 61 total tackles, eight passes defended, and four interceptions. Two of those interceptions...
