While most Americans probably have no idea who Brian O’Driscoll is, he has established himself as one of the fiercest competitors in rugby’s history.  O’Driscoll is arguably the greatest Irish athlete to ever live, and has helped the country become one of the best rugby nations in the world. A good comparison for O’Driscoll is Kobe Bryant. Like Kobe, O’Driscoll plays for one of the best teams in Ireland (Leinster), has experienced a ton of international success (Six Nations Championship & several Heineken Cups), won several MVP award (2006, 2007, and 2009), and was named the best rugby player of the decade. Standing in at 5’10, 205 pounds, he is the perfect size for the outside center position. His 46 tries (similar to a touchdown) for Ireland make him the highest scoring Irish player, and 7th all time. O’Driscoll captained the Irish squad from 2003-2012, and still plays a major leadership role on the team. Click here to view the video on YouTube. In this year’s Six Nations tournament, O’Driscoll suffered a dead leg, a lacerated ear, and a mild concussion in a game against France. Despite all of these injuries, O’Driscoll suited up the very next week against Italy and played surprisingly well. O’Driscoll became so legendary in Dublin that he won the “Dubliner of the Year” award in 2008. Next time you go out be sure to drink a pint of Guinness and a few Bad Schotz of Jameson for Mr. O’Driscoll. -Langer
