The Rangers couldn't hold the 1-0 lead and fell 3-1 to the Mariners. The loss puts them just a 1/2 game in front of the Angels and 3 1/2 ahead of Seattle. A few thoughts: • C.J. Wilson. He's pitched very well the last few months, so a bump in the road was to be expected. Wilson and the Rangers talked about the walk to Ken Griffey Jr. being the at-bat that hurt. No doubt about that. But David Murphy should have just played the Ichiro hit (off a good pitch, by the way) like a single instead of diving. It was a nice try, but it put tying run in scoring position. The other option the Rangers had that inning (the eighth) was to walk Franklin Gutierrez to load the bases and let Wilson handle a lefty-lefty matchup with Ryan Langerhans (assuming there was no pinch hitter). But with runners at first and second, if you walk Gutierrez, you put the go-ahead run in scoring position. I would have done exactly what the Rangers did and let Wilson pitch to Gutierrez.
