ARLINGTON, Texas A season that started with Matt Harrison being the Opening Day starter for the Texas Rangers came to a less-than-spectacular ending Tuesday when the Rangers shut the lefty down because of his surgically-repaired back.
A 0-2 record and two April starts wasn't how Harrison envisioned 2013 going.
"Forgettable I guess," Harrison said when asked to sum up 2013. "It's just been rough. At this point, I'm just trying to clear my head and try to do as much as I can, do my rehab and get this back strengthened back up hopefully for a healthy 2014."
Since his two April starts, Harrison has had two back surgeries and then had his rehab stint stopped after two outings. Harrison starting experiencing some pain in his left elbow Friday and had the rehab start cut short.
The good news is that there's no problem with the elbow as the pain was caused by Harrison trying to overcompensate for a back that's still not strong enough to allow Harrison to pitch.
"I'm not made because I knew I did everything possible to get back," Harrison said. "I felt like I was 100 percent and I guess my back was just not really ready for game speed and it started getting weak again and down my leg a little bit."
Harrison is supposed to rest for at least the next three weeks but he expects to be throwing before the season ends. Then the 2012 All-Star can shift his focus to what he hopes is an unforgettable 2014 season.

Tuesday, the Texas Rangers released Manny Ramirez. But don't shed one tear, America, this might not be the end for the twelve-time All-Star. According to Hector Cruz of ESPN Deportes, Ramirez will not retire and will, apparently, look to hook up with another big league team. Sure, it's unlikely that he lands a job, but, hey...none of us thought the Rangers would take...

Two days later, he was claimed on waivers by the Texas Rangers, as they were scrambling for depth with the uncertainty surrounding Nelson Cruz‘s suspension and appeal situation. After a brief weekend on the […]

Ogando (5-4) has already been on the disabled list twice this season, once with right shoulder inflammation and the second time...
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Give Adams Rosales credit for thinking ahead.
After the infielder was picked up by the Texas Rangers on waivers from Oakland Aug. 2, he had his car sent to Texas.
Of course was hoping at the time that move would be his last transaction of the season. Instead it was just the second for him in a week's span.
But it's all worked out now for Rosales, who...

Manny Ramirez came back to the States with the hopes of landing a spot on the Texas Rangers ball club, but unfortunately that won’t be happening anytime soon. After struggling with the team’s Triple-A affiliate, the Texas Rangers wisely released dimwitted juicehead Manny Ramirez on Tuesday afternoon. Inking a minor league deal on July 3, the 41-year-old Ramirez batted .259 with three homers in 30 games for Round Rock. A nine-time Silver Slugger Award winner who amassed 555 dingers, 2,574 hits and 1,831 RBI over 18 seasons, the 6-foot...

Just read today that Elvis Andrus had cleared waivers. As you posted yesterday and in the past, a glaring hole that needs to be filled going forward is a legitimate everyday shortstop. I believe you also mentioned his name along with Jurickson Profar as well.
Just a couple of comments.
If indeed he did clear waivers, the Mets should obviously explore what it would take...
Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has five 14-strikeout games this season. The rest of Major League Baseball — all of it — combines for three 14-strikeout games. On Monday afternoon, Yu carried a perfect game against the Astros into the sixth, got screwed on a call, then lost his chance at a no-hitter in the 8th. He had 15 strikeouts in that game. And if that’s not enough,...
I understand that switching hands is all the rage today in pro sports, but Yu Darvish needs to stick to tossing a ball with his right hand. Check out the fairly impressive attempts by Yu Darvish who was spotted warming up both arms, and you may think he could actually do it. We agree that it is plausible, but we advise against it.

What’s with all the Jurickson Profar love? He’s rated number 1 by popular prospect polls; his minor league numbers (with my un-sabrey-eye) don’t seem to justify his rankings. Heck, he was ranked in front of Wil Myers who had some killer numbers. I get that he plays a premier position...
