Found June 29, 2013 on MLB Injury News:
The Texas Rangers have three key pieces to their big league club all making progress with their injuries according to Sports Reporter at the Dallas Morning News Gerry Fraley. Right-hander Joakim Soria had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning on an injury-rehabilitation assignment for Triple-A Round Rock. He's also scheduled to pitch again Sunday. Soria has not pitched in any Major League Baseball games since 2011 for the Royals after getting Tommy John elbow surgery. Utility player Jeff Baker took batting practice for the first time since spraining the right thumb when hit by an over-exuberant teammate during a dugout celebration. Baker is eligible to be activated, but he is at least several days away from returning. Jeff has been solid as a spot starter this year for Texas hitting .317 with 9 home runs and 16 RBI's in 2013. Right-hander Alexi Ogando threw 50 pitches without difficulty in a bullpen session. Ogando will pitch live batting practice before beginning a minor league injury-rehabilitation assignment. He has been on the disabled list since June 6 because of shoulder inflammation. Ogando has been relatively impressive in the Rangers' starting rotation this season with a 2.93 ERA and a 4-2 record. The Real Reason Rangers Pitcher Derek Holland Was Kicked Out of Concert

Recently it made the internet news cycle that Texas Rangers starting pitcher was kicked out of a Counting Crows concert in New Jersey for what he portrayed as no apparent reason. According to Holland he didn't do anything. He just wanted to stand up and take pictures. Even the most die-hard of Rangers fan has to wonder about that one, and if you believe this eye-witness account...

Scheppers ready to go for Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas manager Ron Washington appreciates the honesty reliever Tanner Scheppers had with him. The Rangers stayed away from Scheppers in Saturdays 6-4 loss to Cincinnati because Scheppers felt like he needed another day to rest. Scheppers has appeared in 15 games this month and is tied for third in the American League in appearances with 38. Washington had no...

Berkman's knee sore after banging it exiting airplane

ARLINGTON, Texas Lance Berkman was out of the starting lineup for a second-consecutive day for the Texas Rangers. Berkman, who didn't start Thursday's series finale in New York, would have likely played in Friday's game if things had gone different following the team's plane ride home Thursday night. Berkman, who has been slowed by a balky right knee and recently...

Lance Berkman injures knee in freak accident

Texas Rangers designated hitter Lance Berkman hasn't played in a game since Wednesday because of a sore knee, but is expected to be back in the lineup by Tuesday. This in and of itself isn't exactly notable news. However, the precarious manner in which he injured the knee sure is.The 37-year-old told reporters Sunday that he hurt his right knee when he fell down the stairs...

Berkman hoping to play Tuesday

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Designated hitter Lance Berkman, who hurt his right knee exited the airplane following the recent Texas road trip, was out of the lineup once again Sunday. Berkman hasn't played on the homestand and has played in just two of the team's last 10 games, including the last four. Texas manager Ron Washington doesn't think Berkman will need to go on the...

Young Rangers provide heat in win over Reds

ARLINGTON, Texas -- When it's as hot as it was Friday in Texas, only kids are crazy enough to run around outside. Three of the Rangers' "kids" did just fine in a game that began with a first-pitch temperature of 100 degrees. Youngsters Martin Perez, Jurickson Profar and Leonys Martin stood out in the 4-0 win over the Reds. Perez had the biggest impact by throwing...

Holland, Rangers blank Yanks

As the outs piled up, the little voice in Derek Holland's head kept getting louder. ''You can execute this pitch! You can throw it!'' the Texas left-hander told himself, over and over. ''You're going to make this pitch!'' He certainly did. Holland tamed a team that often tagged him, tossing a two-hitter as the Rangers finished up an impressive...

Derek Holland Tosses a Two Hit CG/SO

Derek Holland was spectacular as he allowed only two hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Yankees were not able to register an extra base hit against Holland and registered only two at-bats with runners in scoring position. Mike Trout continued to crush the Tigers, going 4/5 with a double and run. Patrick Corbin remains 9-0 after suffering another no decision.  Corbin...

Infield defense dazzles in 4-0 win

I don’t want to take away from what Martin Perez did on the mound.  Or what any of the players did with their bats.  But the Rangers’ infielders were the real stars of tonight’s game. Adrian Beltre, Jurickson Profar, Ian Kinsler, and Mitch Moreland put on a fantastic show tonight.  I just can’t even handle or begin to describe the beauty that was on display.  Two double...

Rangers 4, Reds 0

Martin Perez pitched six-hit ball into the seventh inning and the AL West-leading Texas Rangers beat the scuffling Cincinnati Reds 4-0 on Friday night. The Reds have lost three in a row, and six of seven. They also have more concerns about right-hander Johnny Cueto (4-2), their opening day starter already on the disabled list twice this season who left after a batter into the second...

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Devin Mesoraco hit a two-run homer in the 11th inning and the Cincinnati Reds snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the AL West-leading Texas Rangers on Saturday night.
