During the New York Mets 5-2 victory over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night, Jon Rauch retired two of the three batters he faced before handing the ball over to Bobby Parnell to complete the scoreless frame; picking up his third hold of the season:

Prior to the game, manager Terry Collins appeared on the Mike Francesa show and said the following about the right hander:

Photo taken by Michael Baron

He’s fearless.  He goes out there and believes in what he can do. He’s not 95 [MPH] he just makes pitches.  Again, when you walk out there with the confidence Jon Rauch has you get people out. …Those tall guys, hitters don’t see that very much.  That angle that that ball is coming out of. And, when you locate some pitches like Jon’s been locating they don’t take very good swings.”

Rauch has been one of the main reasons for the Mets bullpen success as the 6’11″ reliever has been absolutely brilliant for NY thus far.  Over 11 appearances, Rauch is tied with a team high three wins and three holds.  The 33-year-old has turned in ten scoreless innings of work on the year, allowing just four hits, with one walk, while striking out four:

To top it off, Rauch appears to be as excited as anyone about what the Mets have been able to accomplish, routinely interacting with teammates and fans on Twitter as he did after New York completed their sweep of the Marlins yesterday in dramatic fashion.

What a series! Great at bat by @redturn2 to keep the inning goin and a huge hit by Kirk! Great pitching all around! On to Colorado – #LGM April 26, 2012 4:29 pm via Twitter for iPhoneReplyRetweetFavorite @jrauch60 Jon Rauch

From his attitude to his performance, I’m loving what Rauch is bringing to the back end of this bullpen and hope he continue to bridge the gap to Frank Francisco or fill in when his former Blue Jay teammate needs a hand or a day off.
