Ray Rice has established himself as one of the most productive running backs in the National Football League. But may the 26-year-old be eyeing retirement sooner rather than later? From Comcast Sports Net:“It’s always something to think about at the running back position,” Rice said on a conference call Wednesday. “I’ll just put it out there – my goal was to make it 10 years in the NFL. Anything after 10, if I can’t do it the way I want to, then it’s something to think about. But, I’m young. I came in the NFL at 21 years old, a young guy. So, I’m still young; I’m only going to be 27 in January. So, there’s a lot of football left to be played. With that being said, I have priorities too. You know I have a young daughter, and you’ve just got to put all that in perspective when you’re going out there week-in and week-out, especially when you get older in your career.”For folks keeping the score at home, if Rice has his way, the Ravens star will retire at the ripe age of 30. He cited nagging injuries and the long-term wear and tear on his body as additional reasons for desiring to hang his cleats up earlier than normal.Of course, Rice wouldn't be the first high profile running back to retire when the clock hits 30. Barry Sanders, who is revered as one of the best running backs the league has ever seen, retired at the conclusion of his age-30 season as well, much to the sadness of Lions fans and football fans everywhere. Sanders played for the Lions from 1989 to 1998 and earned Pro Bowl honors in each and every campaign.
